Baltimore transportation director resigns amid wide-ranging review of her leadership

Michelle Pourciau, the Baltimore transportation director who was appointed by Mayor Catherine Pugh less than two years ago, resigned Friday, a city councilman said, just days after The Baltimore Sun reported that the city's internal watchdog was conducting a wide-ranging review of her leadership and morale in the 1,200-employee department.

Lester Davis, a spokesman for Acting Mayor Bernard C. “Jack” Young, and German Vigil, a transportation spokesman, said Pourciau no longer works for the city. Vigil said Frank Murphy is serving as acting director.

Councilman Ryan Dorsey said he had been briefed that Pourciau submitted her resignation late Friday afternoon.

The department, with a $207 million budget, is responsible for the planning, designing, building and maintaining thousands of miles of city roads, highways, sidewalks, alleys, street lights, bike lanes and traffic signals.

I wish Salisbury would be reviewed!! There are several people holding positions in city government that have no knowledge or experience at the jobs there in

Hey Larry...better lend a hand to your biggest city in the state - rather than dreaming about the Presidency. You can fix Baltimore. You will NOT be President!

Now, since that's pretty much fact, git to work bub!

From the Mayor's website:

"Ms. Pourciau has a long and distinguished career in the Transportation industry with over 30 years of experience.

She spent 22 years with the District of Columbia Department of Transportation (DDOT) and Public Works, where she assumed progressively responsible assignments culminating in her appointment as Director of the agency."

Why did she leave DC when she was at the top of the heap? Could it have been that she left the DDOT in just the same kind of shape she's been accused of in Baltimore? Or could there be some $$ diversion involved in her management style?

Thank goodness they have bike lanes. Can't really be a blighted urban area without copious bike lanes hither and yon. And roundabouts. Thanks, Jake for bringing us up to date. /sarc

Northwest Woodsman: Anyone want to bet that investigation will reveal some financial discrepancies that were favorable to her? Only thing that concerns me is that the investigation will be conducted by the same demographic which will provide her with cover or destroy her so as to install another minority in her place. I have experienced it in business, military and even law enforcement. When a minority is placed in a position where they can hire or appoint, diversity is not part of their agenda. You end up with an organization that is practically non functional. They will spend more time doing their nails or talking with friends on the telephone than working. Show me any town, city, county, state or country where they are in chargr and I guarantee it will be corrupt and disfunctional.
