Sen. Martha McSally, the first female Air Force fighter pilot to fly in combat, said Wednesday that she was sexually assaulted by a superior officer, and later, when she tried to talk about it to military officials, she “felt like the system was raping me all over again.”
The Arizona Republican, a 26-year military veteran, made the disclosure at a Senate hearing on the military’s efforts to prevent sexual assaults and improve the response when they occur. Lawmakers also heard from other service members who spoke of being sexually assaulted and humiliated while serving their country.
McSally said she did not report being raped because she did not trust the system, and she said she was ashamed and confused. She said she was impressed and grateful to the survivors who came forward to help change the system. She was in the ninth class at the Air Force Academy to allow women, and said sexual harassment and assault were prevalent. Victims mostly suffered in silence, she said.
McSally read from a prepared statement getting choked up at one point. She referred to “perpetrators” who had sexually assaulted her, an indication that she had been attacked more than once.
She did not say whether her assaults happened at the academy or during active duty. She didn’t name any names.
She said she stayed silent for years. But later, as she watched the military grapple with how to handle sexual assaults, she felt like she should speak out.
“I was horrified at how my attempt to share generally my experiences was handled,” she said. She almost left the Air Force after 18 years.
“Like many victims, I felt like the system was raping me all over again.”

This has been News in recent years.
and it was shown that the military Ranks covered up
millions of these cases.
All should be held accountable just as we all are, outside
the military, and Prosecuted in Civilian or Military Courts
at the option of the victims !!!!
No excuses ..... the courts need to step up / congress too
She is certainly Believable and Credible , a military Hero
and whoever did this to her should be in prison !!!
WTF!! Is this the only dialogue and agenda politicians have today?? It's either racism, sexual assault or the ongoing facade Gore created in this green environmental extortion
come on, if she was raped and did not report it then it's on her! total bs! the military takes these things very serious. remember tail hook? how many years ago was that? you tryin to tell me the military hasn't learned anything since then? bs!
semper fi!
She didn't say anything then, because she obviously put herself in danger by her own actions. As smart as she is, she put herself in a position to be taken advantage of. No different than walking down a dark street at night in a bad neighborhood. When you present yourself as "prey" you are partly responsible for being a victim. When you willingly crawl into the tiger's cage, don't be surprised if you become the big cat's meal. Or, if you step out into traffic, don't be all about being a victim when a car hits you. Am I excusing the rapist's crime? Heck no, but this woman bears some responsibility for her victimization. It the reason these women don't report it when it happens. They are embarrassed that they got themselves into the situation (willingly). Smart women. Women with too much to drink, and go alone with a man to his place, where no one else is present. Even now, this ex-fighter pilot won't name the "superior officer" than she CLAIMS raped her this many years later. That's because she knows he has a totally different story about what happened that night. And she doesn't want to have to defend herself against the parts of that night she perhaps doesn't even remember. Easy to claim to be a victim, without providing any facts. Political stunt? Maybe.

Commanders were allowed to be Judges & that needs to be
Changed !!!! All Covered Up !!!!
7:36 yeah right. the commanders are going to risk their careers and retirements to cover for some rapist? I think not! go crawl back in your hole! why doesn't she name names?
Crimes of that sort should be charged and tried in civilian court where there are no superior military officers involved. Immediate reporting is always important.

The military ranks covered up millions of these cases. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! It's people like you that are too stupid to vote. If there were millions of cases you can bet your stinkin a$$ that it wouldn't have been covered up.
I don't believe her at all. She is just riding that "victim" bandwagon and looking for attention.
I'm 60 years old and I have slept with many women and I can assure you each and every woman was the aggressor, otherwise, it wouldn't have happened. These #MeToo idiots are trying to get "equal rights" at any expense. The only thing is they have had equal rights for many years.

You obviously don't know what you are talking about. According to your theory, then we should be trying our civilian cases in a military court.
What you are really saying is that our United States Military personnel and our veterans are corrupt, aren't you??
To all you Liberal POS's who are on here bashing our military, you can kiss my a$$!
