A Viewer Writes: Update On Pat Mitchell Former CEO of Maryland Broadband

Apparently Pat Mitchell is having a big sale and selling off all kinds of big ticket items. If he's being investigated for theft (and I'd guess based on the fact that he's no longer listed as CEO on the MDBC website, that's pretty likely)... well then don't it make you wonder who paid for all those things and why the board isn't trying to get any of it back? Makes ya think that the board is dirty too, wouldn't you say?

This one is a big mystery. First we hear that his homes (Salisbury and Florida) and office are raided by the FBI. Now this.
But no official records anywhere. It's all been hush-hush. Maybe he turned states evidence and is cooperating to catch a bigger fish.
The Daily Times and local TV stations have been silent. I guess they only report new if it lands on their desks.

Well most of the broad band workers are ex cops or part time cops so what does that tell you... MSP to be exact...

I feel bad for the employees.

It’s likely that the FBI investigation is sealed for a reason.

I feel somewhat sorry for this Mitchell CEO. Clearly he has some issues with money. Other people’s money. But a major question in all this is why didn’t someone bring it to the attention of this board? Could all this mess been avoided? At the very least and it looks like the CFO Michelle Smethurst is still employed for some reason, she alone should have taken it to the board. She holds the responsibility to oversee finances and CLEARLY had to know what Mitchell was doing. I am shocked she has not been terminated by this board as well. Leads you to believe that maybe the board is involved and Smethurst holds enough information to bring them down as well. Therefore she remains in her position. Mind boggling that you have a case of embezzlement and at least two people at a minimum know it’s going on and one one has been terminated. I would bet anyone a cup of coffee and mark my words she will eventually go down and will go from a CFO to a Federal inmate number. Once again the board and company will have failed to do its job by terminating her when this was exposed months ago. Guess we know why this company has sooooo many issues.

Boom. I’d bet you’re right. And I’d also bet that if anyone else suspected what was going on that they probably were concerned about losing their jobs, because it would have been easy to make it seem like Mitchell had the board in his pocket.

Was an annual audit required by the Fed for this non profit?
If it was, who were the auditors?
