A US Marine was shot and killed at his barracks in Washington, DC., early Tuesday, authorities said.
The fatal injury, which occurred before dawn on New Year’s Day, was not self-inflicted, Capt. Colleen McFadden told The Post.
The circumstances of the shooting are still being probed, McFadden said.
The serviceman, whose identity is being withheld until his next of kin are notified, was shot around 5 a.m. and hospitalized but died later in the day, the Marine Corps said on its website.
He was on duty at the time of the shooting, which occurred within the confines of the barracks at 8th and I streets.
Officials said there was no threat to the public and no arrests have been made.

It looks like an accidental discharge of a firearm at this point. Investigation continues.
It has been changed to protect his family from the anguish of suicide. He was 20 and his girlfriend turned down his engagement proposal on new years. I got a son there and this is what he told me happened.
