Bridgeville Man Charged with Murder by Abuse or Neglect

Michael D. Lewis
Bridgeville– A Bridgeville man has been indicted on Murder by Abuse or Neglect charges in connection with the death of his child.

The investigation began in late September 2018 when Troopers were made aware of a suspicious death of a child. It was learned that a one-year-old child was on a ventilator and in the care of his father, 28-year-old Michael D. Lewis at a residence on 2nd street in the Walkers Mill Mobile Home Park. The child became unresponsive and was transported by Lewis to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, where the child was pronounced deceased.

Further investigation revealed that Lewis neglected the proper care of the child while on the ventilator. On October 24, 2018, Lewis was indicted for Murder by Abuse or Neglect First Degree. He was arraigned before the Sussex County Superior Court and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $500,000.00 cash only bond.

One scenario could be that due to healthcare limitations she was sent home on the ventilator and the father, who does not have a career in medical did not know fully how to deal with the situation and due to an error in judgement, the child died.

Medical personnel kill people all the time due to errors but when a father does it, it's murder.

Sadly the new healthcare community puts medical burdens on uneducated family members who don't fully know how to deal with what is going on.
