WASHINGTON, DC: Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) supports the Trump administration in NAFTA renegotiations between the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The purpose of these negotiations is two-fold: first, to update the 24-year-old agreement with modern provisions representing a 21st century agreement. Second, the renegotiation will rebalance the agreement to better serve the interests of American workers, farmers, ranchers, and businesses.
When finalized and implemented, the new United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) will create more balanced, reciprocal trade that supports high-paying jobs for Americans and grows the North American economy.
The agreement will open Canada’s market to American dairy products – which had been effectively blocked prior to renegotiation. The agreement will also protect American intellectual property, and prohibit the importation of goods produced by forced labor.
Rep. Harris released the following statement supporting the Trump administration’s trade negotiations:
“I support the Trump administration’s renegotiation of the 24-year-old NAFTA trade agreement. The president is modernizing NAFTA with this trade deal, and is helping protect American free trade. All sectors of the economy, from agriculture to auto manufactures to new technological developments, will be protected from these renegotiations with Canada and Mexico.”
