Nate Jackson: Who Cares About Women's Tennis Now?

Serena Williams's disgraceful display reminds us of another entitled and angry woman.

We’re not much for professional tennis in our humble shop, but we couldn’t help but notice something about the weekend’s U.S. Open women’s championship match. Stop us if you’ve heard this before: A woman who thought she was entitled to win was credibly accused of cheating during the contest, which she then turned into a tirade about her own supposed victimhood at the hands of those who are allegedly sexist. Her supporters then turned into a rabid mob, heckling and booing the victor, who not only deserved to win but did so fair and square. The media rallied to her defense, robbing the victor of the moment of triumph.

But enough about the 2016 election.

We’ll leave debating the rules of tennis to others, but suffice it to say that Serena Williams, in the words of Rich Lowry, “behaved shamefully” and showed an “appalling lack of grace.” Her coach admitted to the infraction that led to a penalty, but Williams turned the match into a pathetic spectacle of rage, complete with smashing her racket (again) and leaving the 20-year-old, first-time winner, Naomi Osaka, not only in tears on the podium but literally apologizing for her win.

The fact Agassi and others rose to fame and even recieved endorsements based on their on court tirades while Serena gets articles like this proves her point.

She didn't want to play by the rules and neither did coach. They shouldn't have signed up for the game. This might be the worst rule in all sports, but fight that elsewhere.

12:08 Not even close. Total narcissist and disrespectful to her opponent and the game.

12:08 - have another sip of Kool-aid.....

She cheated - her coach acknowledged it - she got caught - she threw a temper tantrum (like agassi and others)...but she still lost the match!

She is a petulant spoiled entitled brat - the cartoon nailed it!

Sexism...? Maybe. She is female (I think, at least in outward appearance) so she is allowed to throw a temper tantrum any time she wants.

1246 Love how you guys ALWAYS make up your own facts. "....disrespectful to her opponent". She clearly spoke out telling the crowd to stop booing and that her opponent won fair and square. LOL too funny. You know, I'm wondering when you guys are going to realize that your vision of reality is highly skewed by the stories that your totally make up out of thin air.

Maybe you should check out the response from John McMenroe on this topic. I'll take his views over the words of you clowns any day. Most of you don't have a clue about tennis or an interest. You just decided to chime in as another excuse to spread your nonsense political diatribes.

Agreed, she is tested no more than any other player and that fact has been published after her comment moaning that she was tested more than anyone else.

She was disrespectful to her opponent, had she just shut her mouth after the coaching violation people might have thought differently.

She acted ridiculous because she was losing to the same girl she lost to 9 months ago. This isn't her first time acting like a moron..150 million dollar net worth? John said she would be ranked 900 in the world for men and women.

The Williams' sisters rein over the last 15-20 years is just about over. Outta sight, outta mind with only an occasional view on YouTube to remember and laugh AT the prior entertaining tirades!!!

Yets its serenas fault you yahoos cant distinguish fact from fiction. You clearly choose to ignore hard facts, such as serenas direct statements, thus proving my point.

They just can't be civilized like the rest of us. Their actions in public are what causes the rest of us to avoid them. And then they call us racist.
