Student Attacked/Choked At North Salisbury Elementary

ATTN: PARENTS OF CHILDRE WHO ATTEND NORTH SALISBURY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. TODAY MY 7 YEAR OLD SON WAS ATTACKED AND CHOKED IN GYM CLASS. UPON FINDING THIS OUT, I CALLED THE SCHOOL AND ASKED TO SPEAK WITH THR PRINCIPAL. I WAS TRANSFERED TO DR. HALL. I INQUIRED AS TO WHO THE STUDENT WAS AND WHAT WERE THE ACTIONS BEING TAKEN. SHE INFORMED ME THAT SHE WOULD NOT TELL ME WHO THE OTHER CHILD WAS, NOR WOULD SHE TELL ME WHAT WAS BEING DONE!!!! SHE EXPLAINED THAT WAS DUE TO THE RIGHTS OF THE STUDENT!!! I THEN ASKED IF MY SON DOES NOT HAVE ANY RIGHTS THEN. SHE THEN STAMMERED AROUND AND FINALLY MUTTERED OUT THAT, " SHE DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO RESPOND."I ASKED ABOUT MY SON'S RIGHT TO NOT BE BULLIED IN SCHOOL. SHE TOLD ME IT WAS, " NOT BULLYING BECAUSE IT HAS ONLY HAPPENED ONCE!! AND I SHOULD BE THANKFUL BECAUSE HER SON WAS PUNCHED IN THE FACE!!!" SHE TOLD ME THAT SHE WAS NOT GOING TO REMOVE THE STUDENT, NOR WOULD HE FACE ANY TYPE OF DISCIPLINARY ACT. SHE THEN SAID THAT SHE SPOKE TO MY MOTHER PREVIOUSLY AND GSVE HER "HINTS" SO IS THAT THEN PROTECTING THE ATTACKERS RIGHTS? I CHALLENGE ALL PARENTS TO REALLY LOOK INTO OUR SCHOOL SYSTEM. SOMETHING WORSE COULD HAPPEN BUT U WON'T KNOW ANYTHING IF IT'S NOT HAPPENED MORE THAN ONCE!!!! FINALLY I INFORMED DR. HALL I WOULD BE EXPOSING THIS AND SHE LAUGHED AND THANKED ME AND THEN HUNG UP.

Sheriff Lewis what say YOU ?

DR. Hall should be fired after the lack of action on behalf of the victim, notifying the parent immediately, and false notion that the parent need not be involved. If "Dr. Hall" did laugh and hang up on her during this phone call,
it speaks volumes about lack of character and accountability. DESPICABLE. I would call a lawyer!

This needs to be brought to the Sheriff's Office school resource officer in charge. Absurd! 7 years old, you can be held criminally responsible. Choking is an aggravated assault that could result in death.

Dear Readers,

I took a bit of time to comment on this yesterday, and feel compelled to do so again this morning. While I certainly appreciate that the parent involved in this situation is concerned and upset, I wish to point out a few things for consideration:

1. Only one side of the story is told; that can be skewed in many directions and I believe all of those directions are further from truth that has been shared.

2. When was the parent notified? I read that the Grandparent was contacted, so I question where custody resides. If the school's first contact to notify the family was someone other than the biological parent, I am certain there is some legal framework in place to direct the school to do so. Now, it may be as simple as an attempt to contact the parent who may have been unavailable, whereby the school would make a call to an emergency contact in an attempt to gain access to the parent. If this latter scenario is correct, and the school divulged information about the incident to someone other than the parent, there is indeed an issue.

3. While to the great frustration of the parent, the school administrator was indeed correct in not divulging the name of the student. There is very significant legal ground on this that schools must conform and comply with. Further, the administrator is also correct regarding due process rights. However it may seem to the readership, this is the law and school administrators will follow it concisely.

4. Regarding the parent's sharing that she would 'expose' this, it will make no difference at all to the school/BOE. They have followed legal precedent, and will not be drawn into a pitched argument. If indeed the comments are factual regarding what was shared from the school, then at best a 'discussion' will be had with the individual to 'counsel' them.

5. If the parent is serious about the situation, the fastest route to deliver a message to the school system and the offending student would be to pursue an investigation with law enforcement, and have charging documents drawn up if it is found to be factual. This does two things: it alerts the school system that the parent/family will indeed pursue action and two, it delivers a message to the offending child, that child's family and the community that this conduct will be dealt with effectively and immediately.

6. For those sharing that the parent should consult a lawyer, it is my opinion that this would not be a good use of time. Any credible and effective lawyer would look at facts and make a judgement call on how they are presented with regard to a winnable case. In this case, the school may have erred, but I am certain that they have well documented the situation, and at most an attorney could create a dust up, but not much more as the school system has its own attorneys. Any thoughts of a financial settlement, punitive action against the school, or other scenarios are flawed at best.

7. I would counsel the readership to consider how their remarks may influence the parent in this situation. Unfortunately we live in a world today where technology has in many cases, taken away good sense. People are easily influenced by their online interactions and many believe that will actually translate into demonstrable support - in short, it does not

Regards,

Paladin

Dr. Hall is a graduate from UMES in the education field. Do I need to say more ? She is an obese female with extreme liberal ideas , the victim is never right and the criminal is always justified . She is noted for ability to eat 15 hot dogs in fifteen minutes , normal lunch activity.

You need to call the state police and file charges. The board will try to talk you out of it though.

file charges and sue! that's the only way this bs will stop. sue the boe, and personally name and sue (so called) dr. hall and the teacher the kid and the kids guardians, Once these fools have to secure legal representation maybe then they'll actually give a rats ass about what they are supposed to be doing! or you can just research dr. halls where about's and one night as he/she rounds a dark alley choke the crap out them! see if they are as understanding!

This isn't the first instance of violent abuse of students by other students that shouldn't even be there. Parents need to take a stand, Now is the time to organize a student walkout against bullying and in school violence.

My son went thru this at Bennett Middle, He was kicked in the face and body. Not a teacher in site? We took him to the hospital had him checked out. What I should have done was to call the sheriffs office about the incident but was interested in making sure my son was ok. I was not told who the other student was? He faced nothing.!! We enrolled our son in a self defense class and informed the principal if my son was assaulted again he would defend him self. No more problem.
My son stood up to the students who were making fun or bullying other students. I applaud him for that.

SLOW DOWN FOLKS!! Remember there are 3 sides to every story....lets see what others report before jumping on the bashing bus....something just doesn't smell right about this incident!!!!

You see...if we suspend a student we loose $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Also remember "no child left behind". This child you want us to suspend, I guess you think he is the type that should be kicked out of school and have a career riding on the back of a trash. We will make him a doctor or government employee, yes maybe a school super and he will vote left with us. No child left behind is the only way

@8:03 Paladin
You must be a liberal. All your post does is circumvent the bottom line. The 7 year old choked another kid in school and Dr.Hall and the BOE is trying to bury it. If that was my child I would be IN Dr Hall's office face to face demanding an explanation and course of action.

Dear 8:03,

I am most assuredly a conservative - the point is that only one side of the story has been presented, and badly at that. Just because someone types up a complaint, does not make it true, and if you read my comments carefully (between yesterday and today) I have advocated for law enforcement both times. My post circumvents nothing and provides quite factual statements from over 30 years in education. You may be better served by reading more carefully the next time, prior to making the assertions you have.

Your son would been in more trouble if he had beat Mr. Choker good. North Salisbury is a piece of shh and they lie. They protect the Iep and 504ers. Children get in more trouble there if they fight back. Tell your kids to defend themselves and fight back. Ask ur child who attacked him. He knows. The gym teacher probably watched it before doing anything, he s good for that.

Paladin's assessment each time he's posted about this incident is accurate, well-founded and worth reading and understanding.

There are hot headed kids, and there are hot headed parents. Nobody is sympathizing with the aggressor, and everyone wants the best possible outcome for the victim.

But DC and Annapolis make the rules binding the school district and principal. If elected representatives in those cities put the squeeze on state and federal Dept of Education leaders, or change the law we can turn this around.

Dr Hall this is how the early stages of mass murderers starts. First a chocking incident. Next month fist fighting. Next year drugs, the year after that assault that winds up in court. 10 years from now he shoots up WI HI. You have the chance to turn this young man's life around NOW!! No more lame excuses. Quit hiding behind some "feel good" façade. As a tax payer that's paying your salary I demand action NOW.
