Parkland shooter always in trouble, never expelled. Could school system have done more?

At times, Nikolas Cruz’s behavior could be a school administrator’s nightmare: Teachers and other students said he kicked doors, cursed at teachers, fought with and threatened classmates and brought a backpack with bullets to school. He collected a string of discipline for profanity, disobedience, insubordination, and disruption.

In 2014, administrators transferred Cruz to an alternative school for children with emotional and behavioral disabilities — only to change course two years later and return him to a traditional neighborhood school, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Cruz was banished from Douglas a year later for other disciplinary violations — then toggled between three other alternative placements, school records obtained by the Miami Herald show.

If the frequent transfers — records show there were six in three years — did little to stanch Cruz’s disruptive behavior, they eventually became the only option left in the school district’s toolbox. Contrary to early reports, Cruz was never expelled from Broward schools. Legally, he couldn’t be.

Under federal law, Nikolas Cruz had a right to a “free and appropriate” education at a public school near him. His classmates had a right to an education free of fear.

This article is good but not complete. It fails to address the obama era policies that mandated students who engaged in violence, drug sales, robberies, burglaries, theft and other various crimes are intentionally kept out of the criminal justice system. School administrators and School Superintendents told local law enforcement officers to stop arresting students. This to create the illusion that the schools were safer and less incidents were happening in the schools and were done to make the obama admin look effective. If able to show a reduction in these incidences then you were eligible for federal grant money. IF Cruz had been arrested for the violent assault of another student with a knife he wouldn't have been able to buy the AR 15.

Yeah and under federal law this nutjob could buy a semi automatic rifle too

Another example of Rule-By-Minority.

2:26 wouldn't have been able to if not for Obama's directives the school system like most others have adopted. Instead of shuffling him from school to school they should have had him arrested for trying to kill another student with a knife. But they didn't. They pushed him off into an "alternative" school. If he had this felony on his record he would not have been able to purchase any gun legally. Thank obama and the democrats. Obama and the democrats policies put that weapon in that kid's hands. Obama and the democrats policies shot down in cold blood 17 people in that school that day and wounded many others. Fact!

Exactly 2:34. Obama's aim along with Holder's- the social justice warriors that they are-was to "lower" incidences involving minority students. They did it with illusions and now 17 are dead.

Busch and his no child left behind policy does nothing to prevent these from happening

The alternative schools should be like a boot camp-type place where they learn discipline and respect. There is no point in sending them back to their regular school unless they have changed their attitude.

4:24 President Bush supported and signed NCLB with broad bi-partisan support. It provided a generous timeline for ramping up accomplishment and finally held the schools accountable. No surprise then that the goal was not achieved, despite enormous expenditures and various thumb-on-the-scale administrative schemes.

The law seeking to foster fewer minority behavior incidents preceded Obama, but his appointees enthusiastically twisted the arms of states and local boards to agree to terrible policies. The unsatisfactory results are evident locally and nationwide.

There's a rumor out there that this kid has a brother, and they were appointed a guardian, but he fought so much with the woman guardian, he was ordered out.

Joe, can you find out the "Rest of the story"?
