This is the worst-case scenario for snow from the National Weather Service as of this morning. It allows for a more westward track of the storm.

I'm my own weather forecaster and my formula is simple. If Dan Satterfield says 6" I either know it will be 12" or none at all. What could be easier?

Yep. It currently is. I notice they've bumped up accumulations with this afternoon model runs to 3 to 7 inches here by thursday morning. Based on the combination of the 3 main model runs.
Also pretreating of roads has started, which is ...snow or no snow....stupid..Its way to early to pretreat. the liquid solution turns into dust and is blown off the roads by traffic, by wednesday night. Total waste of money to pretreat this early with temps this cold.
Having lived in Gaithersburg many years, they learned that when they started pretreating. Pretreated the day before, by the time snow arrived, the solution was gone, and the roads were like an ice rink.
Still hope it moves east. if it goes father west, we could have a massive ice storm. Hate this mess.

What is this "worst-case scenario" crap, just another excuse to be unable to predict weather. How about worst-case scenario that we get 98"of snow and then the sun explodes. B

They are working with mainly 3 different computer models. GFS. The EURO and the NAM.
The NAM is way out there calling for the "worst case scenario". Which The NWS has at this point thrown out. The forecast is currently based on the GFS and the Euro models which are close together. It's highly unlikely we will see any 10 inches of snow. But with that said. Weather is not an exact science. When I lived in Gaithersburg, MD I remember a snow storm that started with 3 to 5 inches predicted and ended up with a prediction of 18 to 24 inches. We got 23 inches of snow.
