ANNAPOLIS — The state has announced that it intends to award a contract to two California-based firms to conduct a pilot project to dredge part of the sediment backup behind the Conowingo Dam.
The Maryland Environmental Service announced Thursday that it had awarded the contract to Northgate-Dutra Joint Venture, which is comprised of Northgate Environmental Management Inc. in Oakland, Calif., and Dutra Group in San Rafael, Calif. Because the contract has not been finalized, terms of the deal, including cost and details of the proposal, are not yet being released, according to Sharon Merkel, a communications specialist with MES.
“Today marks another important milestone in our progress to address critical environmental needs at the Conowingo Dam,” said Gov. Larry Hogan in a statement. “This project is one element of our multi-prong approach to improving the health of the Chesapeake Bay and it is another great example of how we are using innovative approaches to solve the most pressing environmental challenges.”

There will be a whole lot of sucking going on. Take that any way you like.
Well put, 12:26.
The sucking sound won't be just at the site, but from the pockets of Maryland residents, even though the contaminant-laden sediment belongs to Pennsylvania. I would call this a win-lose situation.
