Dear Mayor Jake Day,

So here is my question. If you are an elderly or disabled person in Salisbury and need your walkway cleaned you call someone to do it most likely. They have to be able to get to your street to do this. Many streets have not been plowed and they are telling people to stay off the roads. So Aunt Betty and Uncle Joe can't get their sidewalks cleared and will get a fine? If they want people to stay off the roads how do people get to those needing driveways and walkways cleared?

I'm not saying Jake is stupid, but when I asked him how to spell Wicomico and he asked if I was referring to the county or the river it kind of threw me off guard.

Jake the Joke doesn't give a Rat$ A$$ if you get it done. Matter of fact, he would probably rather have the money from fines to fund his Fulk Fustival

If you want to call the lazy job they did plowing. Most 2 lane roads are still half snow. Nothing like driving along 13 and having your lane become half snow embankment..

There must be accommodation for people with disabilities.. "ADA".. the Americans with Disabilities Act.

File a complaint against the city and the mayor.

This doesn't take into consideration the people that did go out and clean their sidewalks only to have the plows come by and cover them up again. Now they are back to work during the day and have to find time to get them cleared again.

To Poster of Article:

That is easy to answer, first off as you know, these politicians here in SBY are just plain stupid, I mean dirt, yes dirt has more intelligence than any of them and dirt isn't even alive lol Secondly, they give two shits about you or anyone else which is why there is always something redundant or confusedly complicated laws and ordinances they pass to confuse and make it harder for you to follow the laws so they can entrap you... This is the proof!!!

They want you off the roads, the county executor said state of emergency and to stay of the roads, yet, the city can go after you for not having something cleared in their time frame, even though the county law trumps the city law in my opinion...

This shows you how stupid all of these people are becasue they do't think about any of this until it is enacted and people start to complain, but first the key point here is you have to complain and fight and battle and we can fix this mess, but it takes a lot of people to fight...

Also as an FYI, per their own ordnance, you have 24 hours after snow fall stops to clear anything needed such as sidewalks... Also in said ordnance, if you are elderly, you have to each year by or on November 1st, contact someone at the city to tell them you are disabled or elderly, and they will I believe send someone out to clear it, but again they will charge you for it, so that is no different than being fined... The key here is, will it rain or warm up enough to melt the snow fast enough you can get away with no fine or a small fine... But they can fine you once everyday until you clean it up or it is melted...

So I suggest you lazy f's, get off your ass and fight this all you can, or sit down and shut the F' up and continue to take it as you have been...

8:46 AM but you people continue to love paying higher taxes for less and less services, and quality of service... So what are you complaining for? It is not as if you will do anything about it!!!!!!!

The city really doesn't care about the people. It needs money by hook or crook or any way possible. They even tow away peoples cars away from their driveway.

The city is so improperly managed both administratively and financially, they need money desperately.

Wonder if he is going to fine himself or the state because the cross walks on 50 are not cleared they are in the middle of a snow bank

I was willing to give them the benefit of doubt for clearing the roads in this county. In the Thirty plus years I have lived here, this is the worst I have seen from the county and city. My road is still a mess. It's still barely passable and I pray that I don't meet a car head on when traveling down my road to get to the highway. There is no sense it this!!!! They have had since Friday to get this done, and it's still a total mess! We certainly pay enough taxes and fees in this county!

so call little joe down the street and pay him $20 to clean the walk! People come on! Stop making excuses! Oh wait it is so much easier to sit back and complain instead of doing something about it!

For those physically unable to shovel, and don't have $50-$100 to pay someone else to do it, what's the answer?
With over 75% of houses being rentals owned by landlords who don't ever bother to shovel and never get cited or fined, why create the anxiety for homeowners who are doing the best that they can?

Thankfully I don't live there genius, I just drive through it. You know, like the majority of businesses do.

Aww, I found the city works employee

And we have people walking in the damn road because the city wants you to clear your sidewalk but they leave the public sidewalks caked in snow and ice

Sounds like 8:57 is a typical shorebilly prophet. All criticism no solutions

After reading many post on here since last Thursday on exactly how snow removal should be accomplished, IMO, Mayor Day should fire his snow removal staff and hire the more experienced, you know -like the SBYNews readers. Those with the name Anonymous are better educated in the challenge, for sure.

Now - the SBYNews folks are on a daily rampage very concerned about as us oldies getting snow off our sidewalks. Mayor Day he did not make that ruler of sidewalks having to be cleared in xxx amount of time, so there is no need to shot the messenger. Do you live in the city? Do you have kids with shovels? Do you have snowblowers? Have you done anything (besides sit behind that compter and trash Mayor Day) to help your block of neighbors with snow removal? Have you emailed or called city hall about their trucks making sidewalk clearing or spoken of your "old age" delima? I live in the city and have a sidewalk so have spoke to personnel (who I found to be understanding and professional). I learned long ago, if you want results you go to the horse's mouth.

Amazing at what degree the sudden interest that has developed in us old folks. Makes me wonder how many or really worried about me and have come to the conclusion "it ain't about me - it is just another chance to get a dig at our city and our city officials. After all we read on here everyday about the faults with Salisbury.

Now if you are on here running your mouth about poor me and do not live in the city limits - my sidewalk ain't your concern.

Its the tenants responsability to shovel, not the landlords

9:52 AM wow you missed the mark big time. Did you even read the words in the articles? Did you watch the videos? You sound like a paid shill for the Jakette's. Have you left the house anytime in the last 5-6 days?

Our street received one swipe with the plow. Our CITY STREET is now a packed snow / ice covered road - all thanks to the city's poor snow management.

The point of the complaint, that you failed to comprehend was Jake's misinterpretation of the city code. Another point was his ignorant threat to fine people after a small amount of time, to clear their walkway in DANGEROUS conditions - (and this is backed up with him saying in one sentence stay inside and in another sentence saying get out and shovel.) The point of the complaint is the inability of the mayor to take conditions into consideration before threatening people all the while failing to hold up his responsibility to make our city streets passable and safe.

As usual your small town small mind honed in on one tiny point and made an ignorant rant out of it. And we thank you for showing us publically what an imbecile you are.

Good for you . Instead of relying on others on here complaining, you wen't straight to the horses mouth.

3 kids were hit by a car last night on Beaglin Park Dr and Rt. 12 because the sidewalk/crosswalk is blocked with snow. Who was responsible for cleaing that mess up so it is passable, the city or royal farms?

Anonymous said...

The real reason that they only plowed a few of the main streets is those little blue things they put in the streets last year near the fire hydrants. A snow plow would have mangled or removed those markers, which are another Jake Day bonehead idea.

Anonymous said...

10:59 AM what a total screw up. My street is an ice rink because of a useless blue reflector? OC stuck them on the curb under the hydrant. I guess even the people in OC are smarter than our guberment people.

@9:51 a shorebilly profit? Really did you think of that all by yourself? Most of us that have lived here for longer periods of time chose to because it was a very rural isolated area away from rimjobs and their ideologies like yourself

Anonymous said...

Did the horse give you a shovel to use? No? Then find a way to shovel you’re damn sidewalk!

It's absurd the number of idiotic comments on here. Folks we had a blizzard! What don't you understand? Instead of running your mouths why not help out a neighbor! My sons and I spent hours helping people and our only wish was a hand shake and a thank you. Look in the mirror and ask yourself, what did I do to make a difference today.

Anonymous said...

10:59am.... BINGO! I guaranteed that's exactly why they barely plowed a line down the center of city streets. They knew the reflectors would be under scrutiny when the snow melts and their egos ALWAYS outweigh the needs of the people.

says who says property owners not tenants

Used to be if homeowners weren't com[pliant, city would send a team to do the work, then bill the homeowner. Works for me.
