BREAKING NEWS: Corrado Construction Co. Walks Off Downtown Salisbury Job & Files Lawsuit Against City

The company that the City of Salisbury, Maryland hired to do the Downtown revitalization, (Corrado Construction) filed a lawsuit today against the City for refusing to pay them for outstanding contaminated soil bills.

Salisbury News came to learn today that the City owes this company $450,000.00 and the Mayor simply refuses to pay them. We're told the City just doesn't have the money, yet they continued to contract this company to do work they knew they couldn't pay for.

It was Salisbury News that broke the news the City had hit contaminated soil from the very start and we again reported that they had hit contaminated soil for the second time, I believe it was in phase III near the Chamber of Commerce.

Corrado has in fact paid the County Landfill for the contaminated soil they brought there but since the City is refuses to reimburse the company they have actually gone in and removed ALL of their equipment and have no abandoned the project.

So where does this leave the City. Well, what contractor is going to go in there now and do the work, knowing the City doesn't have the funding and also refuses to pay for work already completed.

I'm thinking, all that work/contractors that needs to be done for Jake's Folk Festival better open their eyes and run like a bat out of hell. THAT IS, unless local Good Ol' Boys step up to the plate, (possibly pre planned) and allegedly come to the rescue on this massive project and get the funding from the City at a much higher rate. I mean, we are talking about Salisbury Maryland politics.

Nevertheless, the project is now at a stand still and this will get very interesting from this point forward. Put a Boy in a mans job and this is what you get. Keep your eyes open for new fine legislation in the near future Folks.

Oh, crap. The businesses in that stretch are struggling already. Perhaps it's time for them to get a lawyer.

Sailsbury is broke. This is what you get when liberals are in charge.

Anonymous said...

Now we know why day was in such a hurry to fine people for snow on side walks and such hefty fines.

Anonymous said...

You know he hides a lot and just look around Salisbury with all the empty buildings.
Instead he only is worried about downtown.
Why?
My god fill the empty business building that are vacant. But then again when you have a Mayor who will not let the Chief of Police do her job to help get rid and reduce the crime new business or families are not going to come in Salisbury or Wicomico County.

Anonymous said...

Is there any way to charge the mayor criminally, after all he knew the city couldn't pay for work he approved yet went ahead with it anyway. Man this is really going to get interesting to see how the local Tv stations and that rag of a news paper handle this one. The lawers are going to have a field day. It's gonna get good, stay on top of it Joe.

They will get gillis and gilkerson to come in and set up a higher pay rate for them.

It's time to clear city hall, both elected and employed

Anonymous said...

Way to go Jake Day.

Anonymous said...

There's enough lawyers on that street to sue everyone a few times over.

Anonymous said...

Too bad Jake can't raise some more fee revenue.
Oh wait! There's that sidewalk snow program. If only

Anonymous said...

EVERY contractor that deals with dirt has a contaminated/hazmat soils exclusion in their proposal. Sounds like the city said we'll take care it and didn't follow through. Nobody starts moving that kind of dirt without approvals unless they don't know contract law.

If it weren't for the small business owners, I'd be laughing like a hyena. Instead, I feel for them and hope this is the driving force to kick that joke of a "leader" out as mayor. Let's get someone with some bawls involved, methinks a Mr. DJT would be able to use this as a great demonstration of liberalism at its finest!!

I feel bad for all the businesses.

When I was a teenager Main Street was lined up with gas station"s, even where the library parking lot is (including the Ford dealership) on out S. Division to Rt.13. Had as many stations as Baltimore had strip clubs.

1:15 PM hence the words Filed lawsuit you clown... I mean for god sake's you just read the article and in the comments you forgot already what it said and was about... And you people still can't figure out why you all are in this mess in the first place!!!!! Der-no-Der, he-yuck, he-yuck, which way did he go george, which way did he go he-yuck...

Govt entities do this all the time, and they do it to people in the courts too... They know you won't or can't sue and if you do, you will go bankrupt for the amount of time they take to get to your case... They can drag it out because the govt knows you will eventually give up hope if pushed long enough, that is if your even man enough to stand and fight in the first damn place... But the govt also knows most of you won't do that either...

This is all typical business for these people, it is the same thing for oil companies and anyone else big enough... Like the oil spill in the gulf years ago, they knew what they were doing, letting it go unchecked and inspected or repaired, and then a part broke, spewed oil in the ocean for what a month or two??? They knew they would get fined, and they did... Now here is the good part, they knew this would happen, and they call it part of doing business... So let's say the oil company made 1 billion dollars off of that well, it broke and contaminated everything and got fines, their fine never amounts to anything, so they got fined 100 million dollars, so what that tells me is the company still made a profit of 900 million after the fine, so that my friends is why they call it cost of doing business... They still made 900 million bucks, so do you think there really is any ramifications for companies like BP who let all of this happen for money??? And then the courts only fined them a drop in the bucket fine... Now compound that by ever big business in America, and there you have it folks... To top it all off, the company that was picked to come clean up the spill was owned by the people who cause the spill... So they get even more money!!!

Can't wait for the Fulk Festival lawsuits against the City. It will be in bankruptcy by the year's end.

Anonymous said...

need a lot of snow vs. sidewalk fines to pay for this!

Anonymous said...

Leave it to Jake and the city to never know what they get themselves into like the upcoming festival fiasco we will be facing!

Good thing we have such an experienced and visionary council president. Oops!

WHAT YA GONNA DO JAKE??????? Bye Bye Jake

Boy oh boy this speaks volumes about the past and present mayor and city administrator. This is what you get when children are allowed to play grown up games and people with no academic qualifications are given jobs because they know what butts to kiss. Would love to hear the excuses from people like mine dunn

Watch - Gillis/Gilkerson or Devreco to the rescue....at what cost?

Anonymous said...

Please GG and Devreco don't have infrastructure experience. They can barely build a building, ask PRMC how the Ocean Pines Cancer buildings went.

Anonymous said...

As do I. Yet, suffer as they will, they will follow Jake the Fake right over the cliff to their demise. They still won't oust him so deserve the consequences.

Anonymous said...

I just checked Corrado's website to get an idea of the type and size of work they do. Walmart and Amazon is on their client list, you don't work for them unless you know what you are doing. The city screwed this up big time.

Anonymous said...

They have to save money to replace all the blue reflectors that are gone! What a big waste of money that was.
What was the outcome from the accident that happened while putting these down?
That sure has been kept very quiet.

2:41. Who’s the clown??

1:15 is referring to the local businesses that they too should hire lawyers.

You are very adept at solving your foot in your mouth. Why don’t you ask mommy for some corn flakes and go to bed. Adults are talking here.

Maybe the illustrious Mayor Day can organize a large group of citizen volunteers to come in and finish the job! You know that there are many out there who would love to help the city out. ~sarcasm

Salisbury will never change as long as liberal Democrats have a say. It's no different than the liberal run major cities across the country only on a smaller scale. I feel for the conservative minority of Salisbury.
Jake Day has made a mess of what was already a mess.
It was your election to lose Salisbury. You had a chance and blew it.

Hey Jakey,

You are dealing with the Wilmington syndicate. This won't end well for you or da Bury.

No wonder Jack Heath wants to get out of town (politically if not actually).

Look for Jake Day to soon go back to academia for another degree. Can't believe that the City Council wants to double his salary.

Observations:

No. 1 - Barrie Tilghman puts Salisburians in a perilous situation by approving a non-functional waste water treatment plant, then, taxpayers spend an astronomical amount of taxpayers monies in legal fees. It gets better -
the faulty plant is activated knowing full well that it is going to pollute the Wicomico, but that's not the end. Now - Salisburians are being assessed penalties by the EPA because of major spills into the Wicomico for untreated effluent way way beyond legal limits.

No. 2 - Salisbury's credit limit - and - credit rating is in jeopardy because of the waste water treatment plant's ongoing saga of run-a-way costs.

No. 3 - Now the Mayor Jake Day - gets Salisbury's primary street (Main Street) torn up for several years and now - we the taxpayers face yet another construction crisis and are soon to be penalized yet again. Not to mention the RT13 corridor being torn up for several years - killing even more businesses.

Salisburians got what they deserve for putting these hokie Democrats into office.

I AM JUST BLOWN AWAY!

Anonymous said...

The General Assembly session begins tomorrow, and they should revoke Salisbury's charter so that it would be run by the Wicomico County government.

Here's a chant for the next city council meeting,

Jake Day - Go Away

Once Again: SBYNEWS is miles ahead of the mainstream media.

4:23- Your talking to actual entrepreneurs, people who took the chance on Salisbury. I have a lot more respect for them than your ignorant attitude. Your just a troll, so your moronic comments actually have no effect with reality, and the world outside your demented, mentally challenged capacity.

It's less than half a million dollars. No big deal.

There is another bond fund to pay for the construction of the new wastewater plant

Hope this little setback won't affect getting dedicated bike, skateboard, marathon, and stroller lanes in the soon to be mini roundabout fiasco.

Where's the Woodchuck? Holed up until after Groundhog Day?

Wondering how Jack Heath feels about all of his rubber stamping Jake's deals. Shows total lack of leadership. He might as well hang up his run for executive.

Anonymous said...

Name a better candidate, propose a better solution. Don’t just complain on the internet. Your political affiliation is irrelivent.

Anonymous said...

I see alot of big talk. But no one putting there money where their mouth is.
One thing I'll give Joe Albero. He complained and put up the money and tried to make a difference. He ran for mayor like he said he would.
Unfortunately, the people on here got lots to say, but no will to try and fix it.
Yes this mess is all wrong with Jake day. But stop your complaining behind a faceless blog, and file to run for city council or mayor.

Anonymous said...

I absolutely enjoy watching Jake Day keep making a total ass of himself. It's amazing how his being a spoiled little brat keeps showing itself. Everything he's wanted as mayor for his own agenda is blowing up in his face

County should take over City and be done with it. I am so sick of the City. They are a cancer on the County. Now, since Jake very shrewdly convinced the Perdues (Daddy Day) and Governor & Mrs. Hogan to be honorary co-chairs of the Folk Festival, the County (Bob) is going to have no choice but to support the debacle.

As a County resident, I RESENT the con job/power play by Jake. In no way do I want to support ANYTHING the City does. Bob's platform for his re-election should be 1) I threw the City out of the County building for unpaid rent; 2) let's abolish the City government, absorb the City into the County and consolidate departments. WINNING!

Anonymous said...

Would this surprise anyone that this would turn into the cluster that it has. As stated above when you have democrats running the show they will without fail make a mess of things. First off was the dopey mayor and the imbeciles on the council approving 4mil for this project without a clue as to the cost. The only bid came in 2+ million more. Then the contamination issue. Another company was paid what we know of $45,000. Watch the clowns in action on the online meetings. Not one can strike anyone of having a functioning brain that enables them to think much less think forwardly.

Anonymous said...

6:41 - Involving the Perdues probably put pressure on Hogan to participate. Hogan's involvement will put pressure on Culver. Day used his Daddy on this one. Wonder how they all will feel if/when the Folk Festival is a disaster? Daddy Day should have kept distance between the Perdues and his son. Not very smart move on his part - however, very conniving by Jakey-boy and smacks of desperation. Considering Jakey has destroyed the City - is this his hail Mary? Don't think they can save him from his Main Street debacle and his other mistakes. Bye Felicia!

Has WBOC or the other one reported on this?

Candidate proposal, Robert Marvel attorney in Salisbury. He's been about of the most honest trustworthy people I've come in contact with in my lifetime

JoeAlbero said...

7:16, Are you serious? Look, in case you people haven't noticed over the past 6 years, none of them get this kind of information because they BULLSH!T too much. You just wait and see how they twist this one. Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll simply say the City cannot comment on this matter while it's being litigated. Do remember Folks, they very recently had a closed work session and I can assure you, this was the topic.

Sucks for that city. Corrado hs always done good work and very well respected in the community.

If only! But don't hold your breath

I could support Bob M.

It's a shame the city has not won the law suite with station 13 . That amount is the same amount their suing that station for. People should wake up and see a trend here that the city is corrupted.

Anonymous said...

Jake and his clowns are as stupid and corrals the day is long, he has screwed everything he has touched , look at the Fire dept . No volunteers. Just wait for next tax season. Glad I don't live in that craphole anymore. Love it here in tax free Delaware. Jake is the biggest fake areond, spoiled little boy.

Face it Jake, you are a failure at everything you do. Go away.

Add the $1.5 million for the new fire engines... gotta Pay to play city!

Anonymous said...

How many lawsuits is the city in right now? They can’t even afford to pay for Work to help them get the tax money they need. How many lawyers are they paying for this one?

Anonymous said...

boy I bet that crack City Attorney will solve it!

Anonymous said...

I hear O'Malley is gonna be our next mayor - he'll get this mess straightened out

Anonymous said...

I agree with 4:22 AM Poster that said How many lawsuits is the city in right now?

I can't believe all of the legal entanglements the City is in:

1. Waste water treatment plant ongoing saga.
2. EPA fines Salisbury - more litigation.
3. Volunteer firefighters suit even more litigation.
4. Corrador Corporation lawsuit

And how many more are being swept under the rug?
And this question is not only directed to the City but to the County also.

Are the County/City taxpayers financing the areas lawyers?
What we the taxpayers need is a full disclosure expended legal fees to be posted IMMEDIATELY!!!

Anonymous said...

Joe, I recently found a article about this project. The only bid for this job came to a mere 6.4 million to do the work. The city "negotiated" the contractor (Corrado construction) down to 4 mil. Jake day had stated in the article that contaminated soils were to be expected, but didn't know how much. Seems like the city didn't do their diligence and looked into the contaminated soils before work started on downtown. And as it is now it looks like shit, not crap, shit. Jake, you're a big f'ing failure just like Barrie T and your flame boy liarton.

Anonymous said...

Is that why Main Street is opened back up. It' looks like they just filled it in with gravel and moved on.

Anonymous said...

they filled the st. with overflow from the wastewater treatment plant

Anonymous said...

The City needs to be done with and moved back to the county. Day needs to be removed as does the rest of his hirees. They need to be sued for all the money they made while helping destroy the City. Run that whole family out of town!

Anonymous said...

My question in all of this has anyone contacted the folk festival committee and allowed them to look into another one of Jake day's shady deals and allow them to reconsider? Not to mention the onslaught of armed robberies as of late

JoeAlbero said...

I told you WBOC would cover Jake Days rear end on this one. While it took them more then 24 hours to finally report it, (tonight) they also quoted Jake Day as saying only 50% of the project was complete and the entire project would be complete in August 2018. GOOD LUCK WITH THAT JAKE!

Anonymous said...

Are they going to give the downtown business owners a tax credit? I mean wow, they are hurting already and you are going to extend it through the busy time for them?

Anonymous said...

Jake didn't say why this situation has occurred or mention the lawsuit. He's busy posting pictures on the City's crappy website. What a loser.

Anonymous said...

If you think WBOC is spinning this to cover Day's butt, wait until the Daily Times and Greg Bassett spin it. That's if they even report it at all.

Anonymous said...

Where was the lawsuit filed? Nothing shows up in Maryland Judiciary Case Search.
