The partnership announcement was made Dec. 6 at a news conference outside the Carriage House building at WinterPlace Park. Officials also signed documents formalizing the alliance.
Wicomico County Executive Bob Culver said he is excited about the partnership and sharing in the growth of the Wicomico County Fair.
“We will make this one of the biggest highlights on the Eastern Shore,” Culver said.
Zach Evans, president of the Wicomico Farm and Home Show and chairman for the Wicomico County Fair, said since the Wicomico Farm and Home Show was rebranded as the Wicomico County Fair for the 2015 event, the fair has grown in attendance, surpassing 15,000 attendees in the most recent year.
The Wicomico County Fair is a nonprofit with an all-volunteer board, and Evans is glad to bring in Wicomico County Recreation, Parks & Tourism’s resources and staff.
“They are experts in event planning; they do a great job with community events, so we are going to take advantage of that and we’re going to make a promise to continue providing comprehensive programming and building an event that will draw a large audience,” Evans said.
Steve Miller, director of Wicomico County Recreation, Parks & Tourism, said at the news conference that Pork in the Park has been discontinued.
“We’re redirecting those resources now to fully invest in the County Fair to continue to make this bigger and better for the citizens of our community,” Miller said.
The 2018 Wicomico County Fair is Aug. 17-19 at WinterPlace Park. Admission is free. For more information, seewww.wicomicofair.com.

Having lived in Montgomery county, MD. I can tell you the fair there, each summer was the biggest event of the year. It lasted 2 weeks when I lived there. They had a permanent fairgrounds used nothing but for the fair. Which with real estate like it is, I'm sure it's used for more now.
But a large number of people and structures are needed to run a fair like that. And alot of parking. Or as they had way back in the 80's shuttles from the mall parking lot.
It can be a really good thing if organized and done right.
Good move!
I'm all for agriculture but have a problem with this. There has been a carnival in Sharptown for over 90 years held each August. The old Farm & Home show was annually held in September. That died off and now here is this Fair that has now picked their dates in August and the County is going to partner with them in this event in direct conflict with a institution that has been around for over 90 years.
hope they advertise a little more than last year. I only saw the few billboards.
such A positive light that you have allowed
I am a local farmer from the area and have had a lot of luck with this Fair. I got to meet great people and started a working relationship with one of the County Fairs sponsors. (Burke Equipment Company from Delmar DE) Mark Timmons (Burke Equipments GM) is whom I was first introduced to by Zach Evans. I think this fair brings a lot to the table for Wicomico County and I support the direction that these local officials are taking to make this Fair even better.
Pork in the Park has been on a major downward slide for years I am not surprised.
The culture today just doesn't support such endeavors
3:57 . . .I am glad to hear about your good relationship with Burke Equipment as for myself, I couldn't get a return telephone call regarding my rental inquiry.
