The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade was once a modest march without a single balloon: The first year it hit the streets, in 1924, the event showcased zoo animals.
Since then, it has dazzled the country with elaborate floats, larger-than-life balloons and star-studded performances, raking in 3.5 million spectators and 50 million TV viewers annually. It has featured groundbreaking designs, heartfelt tributes and jaw-dropping performances along the way.
