OCEAN CITY — While the future of Ocean City’s eventual model block remains uncertain, Mayor Rick Meehan has been working behind the scenes on a potential project that could separate the downtown area from other resort areas.
For several years, the town has been working closely with the Ocean City Development Corporation (OCDC) to acquire property in a downtown city block between Dorchester and Somerset streets and Baltimore and Philadelphia avenues as part of an eventual model block development. In most cases, the town, through the OCDC, has acquired properties, many of which host aging and dilapidated buildings, with the intent of packaging them together for future redevelopment on a larger, block-wide scale.
The OCDC has envisioned assembling properties on the block to eventually attract an anchor project in the downtown area. The belief is an attractive downtown redevelopment project will provide a link from the Boardwalk to the restaurants, bars and other attractions on the bayside, creating a flow of pedestrians throughout the downtown area.

Where in the world will people park? There is little done to promote their park and ride. In fact, over the last several years, they have gone from running 3 buses at a time to 1. On top of that, they have raised the fare on the shuttle to be the same as the highway bus. A family of 5 then costs $15 to ride across the bridge which is far greater than paying to park downtown.
Penny rich, dollar poor.
Key West has city owned and managed parking garages. When you pay for 24 hours, your receipt becomes a bus pass for 2 adults for 24 hours. Plus all the buses and routes are on an app/website that allows you to see where the buses are, when they will get to your stop and how full they are.
Oh come on 1111am, Key West knows who their customers are. City Fail still thinks its family friendly. City Fail STILL cannot figure out how to fill hotel rooms mid week during the summer. City Fail STILL bites the hand that feeds it - Cruisers, Bikers, anything car related - but still had bars/alcohol available practically on every corner.
Now a marine center is priority. Can't wait until we vote in the future and rid OC of 20th century mindsets!
