More than a year after federal safety regulators announced they were investigating at least 600,000 Ford Explorer SUVs after receiving hundreds of complaints that potentially dangerous exhaust fumes were leaking into the car’s cabin, Ford says it will inspect and repair more than 1.3 million vehicles.
Ford announced today that it would offer the free inspections as a way to placate owner concerns about exhaust or carbon monoxide leaking into the vehicles.
Despite offering the service, Ford contends that the vehicles are safe.
“Our investigation has not found carbon monoxide levels that exceed what people are exposed to every day,” the company said in statement.
“However, for our customers’ peace of mind, Ford is offering a complimentary service that reduces the potential for exhaust to enter the vehicle,” the carmaker continued.

Now I can tell my wife it wasn't me,but that won't excuse me after the repair is completed.
If you look at the reports you will see that all of the cases involve emergency response Personnel police cars fire marshal stuff like that the problem is that cutting holes in the firewalls in the floorboards to run wires for all the electronics computers and everything else they have unfortunately it's a self-inflicted issue with Emergency Services not so much a Ford problem
Merchandisers (regardless of entity) must remember 1 magical thing - the customer is ALWAYS right.
I worked for Nissan for several years. During my time they launched the Nissan Cube. They became aware that the gas tanks were taking damage when hit from the rear, which could pose a fire danger. Without waiting for a few bad accidents, or trying to cover up the problem, they issued a recall and fixed the problem. Ford has known about this problem and have dragged their heels on fixing it for years now! Are they going to pay that have already used taxpayer dollars to fix the problem? They should since Ford prides itself on not taking tax payer bailouts.
