Sears Closing 50 Auto Centers, 92 Kmart Pharmacies

Like a sinking ship that keeps jettisoning cargo in the hope of staying afloat, Sears Holdings will soon be ridding itself of 50 Sears Auto Centers and 92 Kmart Pharmacies.

Sears Holdings announced the plans Friday, noting that the 142 closures are intended to increase its cost savings target from from $1 billion to $1.25 billion, suggesting that despite several multi-million loans from CEO Eddie Lampert’s other ventures, $250 million is enough to right the retailer’s course.

Already this year, Sears revealed plans to close 150 stores, sold its well-known Craftsman brand, attempted to combine its DieHard brand with its Auto Centers, laid off countless employees, and turned sales floors into barren wastelands or big piles of boxes.

Hard to believe. When I was a kid , my mother would not go to any other store. This included back to school clothes, applicanes, and more. There was no other store like it. This was during the early 50s. I know, I am really old. Anyways, never thought I would see the day.

Well I guess I will have to cut up my Sears card. Already destroyed my JcPenney Card. My Montgomery Ward card was replaced with a Walmart card when they closed years ago. So what's next? Best Buy, or Macy's?

Their Auto Centers were nothing but a scam anyway.

In 2012, I bought a $2,500 riding lawn mower from Sears it stopped working seven months after the 2-year warranty period. I bought a Craftsman weed trimmer that stopped working 3 weeks after the one-year warranty. Close them all down because the junk they sell isn't worth buying anyway. There used to be a time when they made and sold quality goods, now it is just all high-priced junk due to their extreme overhead and it's not worth the money you pay for it. There is no wonder people don't shop there anymore when you can get better quality merchandise and other retailers for a lower price.

When Obammer ruined the economy, he unfortunately also ruined these iconic American shopping stores. I have nothing but fond memories of Sears and of Kmart -- who can forget the blue light special! -- and will always remember when those stores were like the social and commercial center of Salisbury. There are some great employees at Sears in Salisbury that I will be said to see go, which is going to happen sooner than later, I think.

The Sears at the old salisbury mall was the greatest of places to go during the 70,s. Toughskin Jeans. The Winner by Converse tennis shoes and all most of there sporting goods was endorsed by Ted Williams. They were home to Free Spirit bicycles too.Sad to see them go.
