Summer of Love 1967: Intimate rock star photos revealed

It was an iconic event that would come to symbolize the height of hippie culture: San Francisco’s 1967 Summer of Love drew an estimated 100,000 people from all over the country in an explosion of music, art, expression and drugs.

In the midst of it all was Jim Marshall, the legendary ‘rock’n’roll photographer,’ who documented the gatherings in the street, the general ambiance in the city’s Haight-Ashbury district, and – most importantly – intimate glimpses into the lives of musical legends.

Now, 50 years later, the work of the photographer – the first one ever presented with an honorary Grammy – is being showcased in a free exhibition coinciding with the Summer of Love anniversary.

‘We’re thrilled to be presenting, for the first time, an exhibition that focuses on the way that photographer Jim Marshall helped to define our cultural understanding of the Summer of Love, the San Francisco hippie movement, and the birth of psychedelic rock and roll,’ says exhibition co-curator and director of San Francisco Arts Commission Galleries Meg Shiffler.

Thus, the beginning of the downfall of America and the slide toward the likes of the Roman Empire.

As a kid, that was a great summer. Remember all of it well. Turbulent times, but exciting to live thru. No computers, cell phones, etc. We waited for the newspaper. Daily time was a 2 a day publication still i believe then. Had to get up to change the T.V. channel, which we had about 10 of. (and how many we have now since we cut the monopoly comcast out of our lives). No cable companies ripping you off. Health insurance was no bid deal. Jobs were plentiful. Gas was 27 cents a gallon. Life was much better then in so many ways.

Hey, 1:01, did you look that up on your smartphone while clicking your TV remote that gets shows from satellites?

Sounds like 1:01 was the idiot in the recent post asking this generation to bring a bag with him so the idiot could go green. This generation gentlemen let him know that The Love Children were saving the planet before it was popular. It was a great post.
The sixties people were the backbone of this country since WW II greats and still are. I would say most of the so called "losers" could had your ass back to you it needed even now as seniors. It was the best of times, so 1:01 you can continue with that nonsense or wise up.
