Memo to Congress When Replacing Obamacare – Health Insurance Is Not Health Care

Healthcare and health insurance are different things. They are related but different products. Conflating the two was destined to create one failed product – Obamacare.

On the evening of September 9, 2009, President Obama presented his namesake health plan to a joint session of Congress. He correctly identified the amount spent on underlying health costs (i.e. hospitals, physicians, labs and drugs) as the reason for skyrocketing insurance premiums, stating: “We spend one and a half times more per person on health care than any other country, but we aren’t any healthier for it. This is one of the reasons that insurance premiums have gone up three times faster than wages.”

However, the plan he put forth ignored this fundamental problem and merely addressed health insurance reform, the question of how those skyrocketing health costs were to be financed. The net result is our nation still spends “one and a half times more per person on health care than any other nation.."

Why aren’t healthy Americans buying Obamacare healthcare insurance? Put simply, from the consumers’ perspective, the costs and benefits to buying Obamacare healthcare insurance don’t make sense.

Furthermore, in the process of pushing a failed insurance product that consumers don’t want to buy, Obamacare has destroyed both the healthcare service and the healthcare insurance markets for the other 300 million Americans, and thereby created significant financial demands on the US economy.

It's VITAL to remember that (as we have seen over the past few years) a health insurance policy that requires you to spend $10,000-12,000 before it kicks in is just about worthless.

Worse than worthless, actually, because you're also out the money you paid for premiums while you were still paying for your own visits.

First thing is to make sure the law makers have the same insurance as the people.

Get the government out of the health care business.

4:44 nailed it....

it was NOTHING but a plan to make insurance executives RICH. Does ANYONE know ANYONE in the middle class who can afford (the "affordable" care act, it was called, right???) to pay $800 to $2500 a month !! and THEN come up with ANOTHER $5000 before your plan STARTS to pay something? THAT is the plan democrats think is so f'ing GREAT!??
The so-called champion of the downtrodden was either too stupid (that's what I'm going with, you can pick) or too uninformed (another pretty good choice), or a bit too crafty (draining the mostly white middle class into poverty).
Pelosi should be hung. Obama is getting his just desserts (see ya!!!) and will be, as Newsweek said in their goodbye, judged as an incompetent buffoon and his "legacy" will be so much toilet paper in short order.
Cheer THAT!

Anything that advertises using the word "affordable" usually isnt, especially when it's used by Democrats to sell something to other, trusting and less savvy Democrats.

Its doublespeak. Thats how the democrats sold it to the ignorant and useful idiots.

The government doesn't work for the people.
It works for Big Business.

Corporations have the same status as citizens.
That is evil.

I rarely reach my deductible and it was easier for.me to pay for my visits and carry catastrophic insurance.I feel like I'm wasting money.Same with homeowners insurance after 20 years I paid more if I took the same money and invested it I would have the money to pay for two of my homes and no hassle getting the money.

That was the best explanation of the unaffordable care act I've ever read. I hope every member of congress reads it before next week.
But, many of you miss the point. This was not about big business. It was about government control. Under the Saul Alinsky doctrine, of which Obama and the clintons were dutiful studies, the main premise is giving, hence controlling, what we need most. Obama doesn't care about big business, except in how he can control them.
That is why this Friday is one of the most important days in US history. We were so dangerously close to turning onto Socialist Avenue. Trump is making a must needed detour and back on Prosperity Road.
Our country can be and should be great again.
