Comcast Customers: Your ‘Broadcast TV’ & ‘Regional Sports’ Fees Are Going Up 50%

The new year brings new things, and at this point it’s all but traditional for cable and satellite companies to announce customers will face higher charges in January than in the December before. But Comcast isn’t just increasing its bundle rates a few percentage points in 2017; it’s going to significantly increase how much all of its pay-TV customers pay for a pair of highly controversial fees.

Comcast customers around the nation have received notices this month that prices are indeed going up as of Jan. 1, 2017. And that includes all prices — TV bundles, double- and triple-play bundles, internet and phone prices, all of it, with some geographic variation. But the most egregious increase is perhaps in two line-item fees that Comcast doesn’t include in its bundle pricing: the “Broadcast TV” and “Regional Sports” fees.

When we broke down a real-life Comcast bill in February, our customer was paying a total of $8 for the Broadcast TV and Regional Sports fees.

I think Comcast is already bleeding customers who are leaving. This will just speed up the process. I have just the internet with them, and I will leave them when there is more competition for internet in this area. With streaming services like roku and many local channels now through your antenna, it's foolish to have cable tv.

I am SOOO glad I pay no $$ for television, not that I could afford it any more. I have a flat panel antenna and get free channels. cable tv is over priced, a gazillion channels and nothing worth watching.

how does the 'antenna' work?

Not my rates. I dumped Comcast a couple years ago. If there's no tv in my house, it's fine, but I have dish for $45 a month. Happy with that.

DirecTV much better than Comcast.

I've been on the fence for satellite service. They made my decision for me.

Get internet, and then get sling tv, though your roku box or amazon tv. 25 dollars per month, and you get most of the channels comcast offers for over a hundred a month!
The picture quality is HD. Comcast charges extra just to have channels in HD! Over the air antenna and roku is all HD! More reason comcast totally sucks!
