Watching a show on Werner Von Braun. “We went from horse and buggy to landing on the moon in 60 years!” Just wow! Now, we hitchhike because we can’t build a rocket ship.

Werner Von Braun was a rock star in the science world. The US is fortunate to have gotten him from Germany when the war was winding down. If he had gone to the Soviet Union, we would not have won the space race or kept our status as a world power. Space programs were not really about getting to space, they were about developing rocketry to launch missiles but because it was so costly, it needed public support and that is why we have NASA.

Its because we are working on a better shuttle or "space plane". Trying not to spend so much on rockets. Cheaper to buy rockets, this allows more money for payloads. Also we have better propulsion system in the works. Googgle it.
