A black social worker called 911 because she was afraid of a cop. A violent arrest followed.

Nervous and distraught, Earledreka White did the only thing she thought she could to allay her fears after being stopped by a police officer in Houston: She called 911 to report the traffic stop and asked for police backup.

White’s voice was so shaky that she stuttered when trying to give the emergency dispatcher their location, a medical plaza parking lot outside the Loop 610 near downtown Houston. Next to her stood an officer with Houston’s Metro Police Department, waiting while she made the call in the doorway of her sedan.

“He’s saying I crossed over a solid line and I did not not,” White told the dispatcher. “I got out of the car to ask him what the offense was. He raised his voice at me and threatened to arrest me. So I’m really confused. And I would like another officer to come out here.

Rule #1 when you're stopped for a possible traffic violation: Don't get out of the vehicle.

I am a black middle aged male and am peeved to watch this woman try out for attention. She should be glad I was not the officer because I'd told her to get in the car soon as her feet hit the ground. If she didn't comply her rear would have hit the ground. They are making other lawful citizens look awful. I have been stopped and keep my mouth to myself until asked a question. In doing so, I have been treated as should.

The officer 'could' have easily waited for backup as long as she didn't try to leave - then he would have had an additional witness to her behavior. The 911 dispatcher 'could' have immediately requested a backup based on the cell-phone tower location - and asked for the officer to report in by radio.

Yes, she was a combative-whiny entitled person - but the police 'could' have handled it better!

Why does a certain group of people insist on NOT following the standard procedure of pulling over, turning the car off and placing both hands on the steering wheel so the officer can see you are not holding a weapon. If you want respect, show some respect to the officer. Who knows, you may get only a warning rather that a ticket or worse yet, a confrontation.

This is going to be the new normal during traffic stops. She is just looking to promote the belief that all officers are racist. I hope she gets the maximum. The courts need to let idiots such as her know this will not be tolerated.

You answered the question yourself. Because they are a certain group that insist on not following standard procedure. I refer to the certain group as trash. Note, there is actually a some portion of the people that make others look bad. Maybe the ones being made to look bad would step up and denounce and attempt to squash the trash.

few months ago more then one cop was considered intimidation. If she was afraid of the police why would she want more their?

This shows how some people are disrespectful, talking on cell rather then talking to the officer, gets out of the car, refuses to show her license, requesting another office so she can say she was intimidated. This is just plain and simple resistant to authority and disrespect. She deserves what she gets since she created the problem.

On traffic stops - these days as opposed to 40 years ago when people were more civil - Step #1. Role down the window and put hands on the wheel in plain sight before the cop gets to your car; Step #2. Listen attentively to what you're told with no arguments; Step #3. Comply with everything you are told. Comply, comply, comply. If asked for documents explain first where the are, then how you're going to retrieve them, then do just that with no sudden movements, hands in sight as much as possible. At that point the officer still has discretion on charges - if any - for citation; could also decide it might be only worth a warning, or it might even be just a "have a good day and be careful"; Step #4. Always understand the officer's duty is reasonable enforcement, a judge's duty is to determine guilt or innocence. Arguments and mercy pleas always all fall on deaf ears.

Remember, when you are asked to pull over, the officer is in charge - legally. A cop is totally with in bounds to assert that fact. Disobedience, arguments, name calling, asserting rights you may believe you have (or may in fact have) are all going to lead to escalation; when escalated you lose every chance you may have had for leniency, and ensure the results will be far worse than they ever would have been.

Remember too, the officer is doing a job, an often dangerous job, for less than twice that which burger flippers are demanding, without the risk, the education, or the training. When you are stopped, they are on shift, just like you when at work. At the end of that shift they go home, get a meal, do dishes, laundry, and all that everyone else does.

It comes down to if you want respect and fair treatment, give the cop respect and fair treatment.

These pronouncements come from someone who has been stopped several dozen times, gotten almost as many citations, but has not been fined a penny (typically in court the officers have vouched for my compliance, winding up with PBJ) in over forty years.

He shouldn't have to wait for another back up unit. He has a job to do and she needs to comply. Her only right at this point is to comply with the officer because she broke the law. It's softies like you that are helping cops get killed.

Typical black privilege she thinks she is above the law. She was combative and didn't respond to officer's command to produce license and resisted arrest. She did not do one thing right to avoid a confrontation.

Hell, you can see the arrogance in that hussy when she exited the car. Body language, before opening that Black Loud Mouth

I guess she wanted to get shot!!! Most who don't obey commands do!!!!

Should have told her loose the phone or your going to jail. Slap the phone out of her hand and slam this fat black cow cudd to the ground. JOB WELL DONE!!!

What would she had said if the second cops was black and backed his/her first officer? (map)

It's not just black people as the media wants us to believe ,The problem is the mentality of this generation...The rules don't apply to them for some reason but they apply to the rest of us to pay their way.

How do you, and others on here, get that shoe polish off your tongues?

Social worker?

Guess she lets her clients decide what info she will get and when. Not likely! She is used to directing her clients and working within a set of guidelines. She should have kept that in mind in her approach to the officer.

or they are more inclined to stand up for their rights and refuse to be abused.

and you wonder why so many police departments get hit with lawsuits and have to settle so often. you would think they would learn after the first 100 million they had to pay out. which one is dumb?

This exact same thing happened to me once. I got out of my car and freaked the officer out and he was going to arrest me. When I realized what I did I immediately apologized we talked and he allowed be to get back in my car. No big deal, life move on and he finished his day and I did not get arrested. She is a moron!!

Just do what the officer tells you to do, others you caused the outcome!

She should have respected and obeyed the police officer. If you disagree, you can fight the ticket in court. I have done this and won in court when the ticket was unjustified. There is no need to act ignorant like this lady did. She was trying to turn this into a racial incident. She deserved to be arrested. I give the police officer credit for being as patient as he was while she wasted the dispatcher's time and resources.

When you get pulled over, the police officer is in charge of the situation, and you are to comply. Only if it gets out of hand is there the risk you take on your own to run... good luck.
After that, realize there is a judge and a possible jury that can help your argument.
It doesn't get decided on the street. Word.
