Hogan steps back from clean-energy efforts, citing cost to consumers

Republican Gov. Larry Hogan's pledge to cut taxes and fees has spurred his administration to step back from two of Maryland's main efforts to clear the air of pollution.

In the face of efforts by environmentalists, consumer advocates and utilities, the administration is opposing plans to expand an initiative that encourages state residents and businesses to use less electricity. And the governor vetoed a bill that sought to increase Maryland's use of renewable energy sources.

In each case, Hogan argues that while he wants cleaner air, the state cannot ask residents and businesses to further bankroll the effort. Utility customers pay monthly surcharges that Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. and others use to promote energy efficiency, and renewable sources such as wind and solar power are more expensive than energy from fossil fuels.

"The governor has demonstrated his commitments to reduced emissions and is willing to work with anybody to find ways to do that," said Matthew A. Clark, a Hogan spokesman. "But increasing taxes isn't going to be the approach he's going to agree to."

Solar and wind require massive amounts of land for miniscule amounts of energy. Even when these plants produce, electric ratepayers are paying for another source of energy, usually coal, because the wind can stop blowing and the sun can be blocked by clouds. Instead of wasting billions of dollars putting this junk in our fields, it would be wise to invest in research that would enhance the cleanliness and performance of the forms of energy that we have that are dispatchable and affordable.

Thanks, Gov Hogan, it's hard to swallow paying more for "air pollution" while we're being chemtrailed to death :(

A lot of ignorant people still don't realize that the climate change/global warming movement(scam)is political not scientific.

Due to the laws of physics and inconvenient things like calm weather and night, solar and wind power never will be practical on an industrial scale.

Crony capitalists and the politicians they reward are the only ones who profit from spending on "green energy".

Solar panels expend more energy than the produce. Solar costs 3.6 times more for 25% of the energy.

A policy shift would turn solar panels into junk overnight. No matter how much money we throw at them, renewables will always require 2 sources of energy which means we pay twice while the backup source is dumped.
And Wind turbines reduce C02 by ZERO!
