Final phase of Route 113 dualization to begin in 2017

While adding another crossing of the Chesapeake Bay was not formally discussed by officials during the meeting, there were a number of other, surprising, announcements at the county’s annual meeting with transportation officials earlier this week.

State Sen. Jim Mathias caused a bit of a stir in September when he mentioned another crossing at Somerset County’s meeting with officials. Traditionally, Worcester, Wicomico and Somerset all held their meetings on the same day, but this year Somerset went first, and both Worcester and Wicomico had to wait until Tuesday before their own meetings. No reason was given for the change.

None of that seemed to matter once Maryland Department of Transportation Deputy Secretary for Operations Jim Ports said phase four of the Route 113 dualization project, containing the final stretch of two-lane traffic on the road, would begin construction in spring of 2017. Phase one of the project was completed in 2006.

From the article: "Ports also announced a $26.9 million repaving project for Coastal Highway from the Delaware State Line south to 62nd Street. That project is scheduled for completion before Memorial Day."

I don't see where Coastal Highway needs to be repaved. At least could go another 5 years.

That might be because it is above your pay grade.

"That might be because it is above your pay grade."

As a tax payer nothing is "above my pay grade". A tax payer is the highest pay grade we pay for everything. Comment when you have something intelligent to say. If there is a reason to repave the road explain.

As a tax payer, the only thing that is in your pay grade is to participate in the election process to decide who gets to make the decisions on how to allocate tax dollars. I pay more in taxes than you probably make in a year and I don't whine about improvements to infrastructure (the basic equipment and structures (such as roads and bridges) that are needed for a country, region, or organization to function properly). Included the definition just in case.....

Forgot to add that I was only referring to property taxes i paid not income taxes.

1:47 People like you are the reason the country is in the piss poor shape it is in. I'm not whining about infrastructure improvements we certainly need plenty. I'm questioning why are they repaving coastal highway when it has been less than 10 years since the last repaving. There are certainly other roads that need it more. Also if my only purpose as a tax payer is to elect officials then why are meetings required to be open. As I said before if you can't make an intelligent comment don't say anything. Also I don't care how much you pay in taxes that is your problem not mine but if you do pay more in property tax than I make in a year you must be a very rich goober.

Because if it deteriorates to a point to loose sub base will cost 2-3 times as much.
