State police investigate two suspicious fires on Eastern Shore

EXMORE, Va. (WAVY) — Firefighters battled two suspicious fires for more than an hour late Friday night, and continued putting out hot spots at one of them Saturday morning, according to fire officials.

Virginia State Police are now investigating the fire at Tankard Nurseries, as well as another fire at a home about a quarter of a mile away, according to Community Fire Company Chief Greg DeYoung.

The Community Fire Company out of Exmore responded to a call about a residential fire just after 10:00 p.m. The first crews to arrive at Tankard Nurseries saw a storage building collapsed and fully engulfed in flames, according to DeYoung.

Within ten minutes, firefighters got a call about another fire at a home a few blocks away from the nursery and also on Bayside Road.

“Both fires appear to be suspicious in nature, and they’re being investigated,” said DeYoung.

What about the suspicious fire at Former Somerset County Sheriff's deputy's foreclosed home. The Deputy that was fired, then sued and won the case in Federal Court then got rehired and fired again. Showed off his home and 2 new cars then beat up his girlfriend. Got fired and lost everything.

Arson for revenge is an extremely common motive 5:19. Also it is not uncommon for people who are in foreclosure to destroy the house in other ways. I've heard of stories where they've ripped the cabinets off the walls, smashed up tubs and toilets, poured cement down the drains.

We have a business, maintaining foreclosed homes and getting them back into condition to put back on the market for a new homeowner.

Nothing surprises us anymore, in a foreclosure.

We've seen houses stripped bare, even the copper pipes ripped out through holes punched in the walls. A roof mounted heat pump removed from a four story condo building in Ocean City, with even the sink and drain fixtures stripped out. Poop left in the middle of the floor. Cabinets ripped out is fairly common, and allowed the appliances removed, even "built in" ones such as dishwashers and garbage disposals and wall
ovens and outdoor heat pump units. Every window deliberated smashed out. Animals abandoned to die, trapped in the house, which is the worst...just heartbreaking.

4:47 It's not a good idea to count your chickens before they are hatched when it comes to suing an individual civilly. It's nearly impossible to collect a cent. Just ask the Goldman's and the Brown's who were awarded millions from OJ Simpson. They've collected what amounts to a pittance and that was only because OJ had some fairly valuable sports memorabilia that they were able to have auctioned w/proceeds going to them.
