Second military airship getting Baltimore-area test

ABINGDON, Md. —The U.S. military has launched a second massive blimp over Harford County.

On Wednesday, The North American Aerospace Defense Command launched the second of two helium-filled airships near Baltimore to test an East Coast missile defense system. The launch at the Army's Aberdeen Proving Ground completes the aerial part of the Joint Land Attack Cruise Missile Defense Elevated Netted Sensor System, or JLENS.

There are now two giant sensors on a leash, orbiting 10,000 feet above Harford County. The blimp-borne radar system is so massive, it makes the 18-wheeler carrying it look like a Matchbox toy vehicle.

Military officials told 11 News the airships don't spy as there are no people, cameras nor eavesdropping devices on board.

yeah just like they said the NSA doesn't spy on you... Just like they you still have rights and that all cops doing murders and crimes are going to be punished...

You can believe these lying pieces of trash all you want, but if you do, you are no better than them...

Two common sense questions, if these are only for military defense, wouldn't they be easy targets to take out first in a conflict? Don't we already have satellite surveillance of missile and rocket launches? The spy satellites they have now can read license plate numbers. Seems more like domestic use to me, but I guess we can trust the government.

I have seen a brand new F350 4x4 with a govt tag and the decal on the truck said "blimp fuel",I guess they ride all over fueling the blimp probably making 100 grand a year plus benefits.

Cudjoe Key, Florida.

That's all I have to say!

LOL!

They shot that thing free/ down so many times they quit the program, LOL!

It's spying on us, folks, period. That thing can't see as far as a satellite can. It's only there to monitor cell/email/ web traffic.

Shoot away! The rope is the best target, that way they keep losing their million dollar craft, and Citizens get to pilfer it for its real purpose.
