Lawmakers tells feds to return Md. dairy farmer's money

WASHINGTON -- A bipartisan group of lawmakers on Wednesday called on the Treasury Department to return $30,000 to a Western Maryland dairy farmer whose bank account was seized under a law intended to target money laundering.

Randy and Karen Sowers, who own the South Mountain Creamery in Middletown, had their account taken by the government after repeatedly making deposits of just under $10,000, a practice used by criminal organizations to avoid reporting requirements triggered by larger sums.

The couple has long denied wrongdoing and ultimately settled their case with Internal Revenue Service in 2012.

Their story has captured national attention from groups who have raised concerns about asset forfeiture. Randy Sowers testified in February at a hearing of the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Oversight. Nine members of that committee signed a letter Wednesday calling on the IRS to return the money taken from the Sowers family under their settlement.

just wait until the shit hits the fan like Greece and you will see who's money is who's...

Why do you think all the banks are installing new atm's and new teller computers where you talk to people from India??? They claim it is to prevent robberies but it is a security feature where they keep your money and you don't get yours...

What do you think people will do once they realize they can;t get their own money out of the bank???? well honestly I think you lazy sorry excuse for a human being will do absolutely nothing but in the event that I am wrong, people might try to take their money back at force... Which is even more funny because it is all 1's and 0's or digital and made up and the banks don't even have that kind of cash on hand or in the vaults...

You all will soon see... Mark my words... why else is all the banks doing this and you have the military all over the us doing god knows what... Laugh all you want, but I will as always get the last laugh and that famous I told you so...

There should be a payment to cover the farmer's loss while he didn't have that $30K for his farming expenses.
