That's a good question.As bad as that hurts when it happens a break is entirely possible.
I was an interior lineman through 4 years of college football and I've broken every toe at least once and some multiple times! No fun at all!
Never had a broken bone, toe or otherwise-knock on wood, in 52 yrs.
Many times kicking the same chair at nite.
I have that happen to me all the time and dang does it hurt.
