NARRATIVE:
On July 14, 2015 at approximately 9:55am, a Deputy from the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to respond to Hertich Of Pocomoke 1618 Ocean Highway for report of fraud. Upon arrival the Deputy met with staff from Hertrich who advised Gary Jay Messer, 49, of Painter, Virginia had purchased a 2015 Dodge Dart on June 22, 2015 using a $2,000.00 check for down payment. The dealership later learned the check had been written on a closed account, and when notified, Messer failed to return to the dealership to make good on the payment. When attempts were made by the dealer to locate Messer, they learned he had provided them with a vacant address in Onancock, Virginia where he had never resided. Upon an investigation, the Deputy learned a possible address for Messer in Painter, Virginia. On July 15, 2015 the Deputy applied for criminal charges at the District Court in Maryland and an Arrest Warrant was issued for Messer. The Deputy coordinated with the Accomac County, Virginia Sheriff’s Office and was able to locate Messer at a residence in Painter, Virginia. Messer was placed under arrest by an Accomac Deputy and taken into custody. Messer went before a Virginia Court where it was decided he would be extradited to the state of Maryland. On July 17, 2015 Messer was taken to Worcester County by the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office and taken before a District Court Commissioner where he was held on a $10,000.00 cash bond.
