Incident: Found Ammunition
Date / Time: July 19th, 2015
Location: Kent Island, Stevensville

Details: Deputy Cooper responded to a community on the southern end of Kent Island reference to recovered ammunition along the shoreline. On arrival it was determined that there was a large amount of loose small arms ammunition located in the sand.


The State Fire Marshal’s Office was contacted, who in turn sent a bomb technician to the scene. Once on the scene he contacted the US Army’s Explosive Ordinance Division in Virginia. The Army advised him that the situation is not an emergency, however they would assemble a team and respond to the location to survey the area and make a determination as to what steps are needed clean the ammunition up. At this time it is undetermined from what era the ammunition is from.

Citizens are asked not to respond to the area and to avoid picking up old ammunition found on the beach and it can be unstable.
