Troopers Investigate Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash

Millsboro - The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash in which a male pedestrian was struck and killed that occurred early this morning north of Millsboro.

The initial investigation has determined that the crash occurred this morning, Saturday, July 25, 2015 at approximately 1:37 a.m., as Cortez L. Solomon, 50, of Florida, was attempting to cross the southbound lanes of DuPont Boulevard (US Rt. 113) approximately .3 miles north of Delaware Avenue, north of Millsboro. As Solomon entered the roadway he stepped directly into the path of a 2014 Kia Optima, which was being operated by Carol A. Farrell, 68, of Millsboro, and which was traveling southbound on US Rt. 113 in the right hand lane. The front right side of Farrell’s vehicle struck Solomon, who was thrown into the roadway and onto the shoulder, where his body came to rest. Carol Farrell was able to bring her vehicle to a controlled stop at the scene.

Cortez Solomon sustained massive injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Alcohol use on the part of Solomon is being considered as a factor in the crash.

Neither Carol Farrell nor a male passenger in her vehicle, who were both properly restrained at the time of the crash, were injured.

This crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.
