ATTN ALL: WE WANT PICTURES AND TAG NUMBERS THE NEXT TIME THIS HAPPENS

Joe.. I was just at best buy at 2:30 today. When I pulled up there was a black extended cab truck with black interior with windows 1/4 the way down and a beautiful chocolate lab panting. I spent a half an hour in the store and when I came out he was still there. So I called the police. There was a Manger outside on break and I yelled to him to find the owner. He went in and came out with a bowl of water. I tried give him the water through the window and he was just sitting there panting and not moving. Just as the owe came out the animal control shows up. It has now been 50 minutes. The owner wanted to argue with me that he had just check on his dog which was a flat out lie. And then to my surprise Animal Control didn't even make him open his door and check on the dog. He just gave him a speech that it is a violation after 20 minutes looked at me and didn't thank me but said the dog is fine and left. This makes me sick. There were plenty of witnesses to very how long I was there trying to help him. Thank you Animal Control for such concern. Sorry I had you come out in this 90 degree weather. And to the smart ass that pimp that rode by to tell me to mind my business. ...kiss my ass!

Something similar happened to me last year, but it was a Salisbury Police Officer that said the dogs looked fine and the windows were cracked. MAKE IT ILLEGAL so the cops and Animal Control MUST do something about it! How would the cops like it if their canine officers were closed up in a hot car???

I have also called people in and gotten the same crap for saving a dogs life.
All I can tell you is to continue to do the right thing. Because you will regret it if you turn away and not help. It will eat away at you all day as you wonder if the dog died or not.

Good for you and thank you for doing the right thing.

There are more of us out there that agree with you. ALL pet owners that do this say, "I was only gone five mintues". Every single one of them that I have turned in say it.

Stupid animal control, if he had a brain, could have had him on the time line of when the call came in and when he arrived. Sadly he is useless.

As a dog owner and a dog lover, I would think that any dog owner would be thankful that someone cared enough to be concerned about the dog's welfare. I am happy there are people out there like whoever wrote this post.
On the other hand I have a dog, a very large furry one, with an undercoat who will lay out in the sun for hours in 90 plus degree heat. He has plenty of shady areas he could lay under or he can come in whenever he wants. We actually turned the AC on for him in the house but he still prefers to be outside no matter the weather. This because he is a live stock guardian breed and they along with certain other breeds of dogs such as retrievers are more weather tolerant than other breeds of dogs.
At this very moment mine is laying much to my chagrin in the sun rolling around in the grass and panting. He's keeping an eye on his pond because he doesn't think the otter that's moved in should be there. He'll keep this up until he figures out that the otter is no threat to his chickens and his cats that he guards so faithfully.

Thank you for your concern, and for stepping up to the plate and doing the right thing for the dog. Be damned with the stupid people. If this ever happens again, take pictures of the vehicle, license plates, and video the entire scene and include as many witnesses as possible.

Some people just shouldn't be allowed to live, and certainly shouldn't have pets.

I agree. Break the window.

I once went in China buffet and announced to the whole crowd in my loudest voice that someone left their dog in the car, the tag number and make of car. My mom was wearing her that's not my daughter face. Lol. Sorry mom. I'd do it again. Love you and miss you, mom. RIP.

Thank you for your support. Small children and animals cannot speak for themselves. It is abusive. I was just extremely shocked how animal control handled this situation. At least physically check the animal. You are right when you say they would not treat their K-9 like that. I would do it all again. However, next time (although I hope I never have to go through this again ) I will take photos!

1:12 MAKE IT ILLEGAL so the cops and Animal Control MUST do something about it!

Good thinking. Lets get the politicians and government more involved. let's drag them off to jail and put their names on a pet offender list too. (sarcasm)

Like the other person said, Mind your own business. Do I really feel that way? No, attend to the problem. But the dog control did the right thing in lecturing and educating the driver. The dog was fine.

You emotional vigilantes are part of the problem, not part of the solution.

11:03 wow
Excuse me for being emotional when I see child or animal abuse.
Excuse me for being emotional when I see a child or animal in pain.
But if I ever see you in distress I most definitely will "mind my own business" and turn away.

You must work for animal control. Not sure how you could possibly form such a conclusion and assess the situation unless you were there. Stickin up for your lame buddy?

I have had dealings with that lame animal control dude. My neighbor did not provide water to his outside dog for days in the middle of summer. When animal control showed up his excuse was, he musta just run out.
Not a speck of water anywhere in sight and animal control lapped up his excuses and did nothing. So now I provide water to the dog and fill up her bowl every morning.

Go ahead give me a citation, I really do not care.

11:03's response gives you insight as to what animal control thinks of the public, because that response is clearly from one of them.

One sentence says, hey attend to the problem and the next sentence says mind your own business. confused? Bit of dual personality there?

But the ending is the clincher. He does not really give a spit about the animals its just a job to him.
