OREGON IS FIRST STATE TO CHARGE DRIVERS FOR EACH MILE THEY DRIVE

"I've introduced legislation in Congress that would fund projects like OReGO all across the country"

When he’s not riding his bicycle, Rep. Earl Blumenauer, an Oregon Democrat, said he’s driving a fuel-efficient hybrid, and that’s a problem, because it means he’s not paying his “fair share” for highway maintenance.

Blumenauer says that’s why he signed up for OReGO, the nation’s first program to charge drivers based on the number of miles they drive.

The program launched on July 1. It is voluntary at the moment, but Blumenauer expects that to change:

“I’m excited to be one of the first 5,000 volunteers in the OReGO program, because I’m convinced that as a state and as a nation we should not pay for transportation based on how much fuel we consume,” he said in a videotaped message for OReGO:

HAHAHAAH I get to say I told you all so again!!!!!

I told you back when they were going to tax the rain in MD, they would be trying to charge you per mile in other states...

Damn I get tired of bring right all the time, in regards to the govt... But it really is not hard to predict, bc all you have to do is know how money works, who wants it and has the power to take it at gun point and bam, you can predict what the govt will do next...

Unless they require GPS tracking of when/where people drive (which they relate is currently optional), how will the other states get their respective share of the tax...

If they implement this across the board - will they eliminate the gas tax - even if it is only the transportation part...not the general sales tax part?

Considering these liberals touted hybrid vehicles as a way to reduce emissions from gas consumption - and subsequently the associated fuel costs, now want to impose additional taxes due to their reduced contribution to the transportation expense pool! This would now make these vehicles significantly more expensive than their fossil-fueled counterparts!

Just another tax scheme to fund their spend schemes!

Another solution in search of a problem!

Full or partial hybrids, or for that matter any vehicle using the roads without paying motor fuel taxes, are freeloading.

Simple solutions:

1) Calculate gas fuel tax paid in state and divide by number of gas registered vehicles to find average fuel tax paid. Delete trucks to find adjusted car paid amount; that's the 'fair share' hybrid owner needs to pay on or before next registration.

Or,

2) Require hybrids to state odometer reading at registration and assess the fee then.

This may be illegal.

This country is Nuts and every time you cast a vote for a Democrat you are part of the problem.

10:24 AM Moving out is not the solution.

Taking up arms is.

Simple enough.

They will tack on a surcharge to everyone's electric bills or add a levy to hybrid/electric car registration.
