FEMA Denies Disaster Aid to Cover Baltimore Riots

Federal officials have denied Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan's request for a disaster declaration to let the city of Baltimore and the state recover millions of dollars in costs stemming from rioting that followed the police-involved death of Freddie Gray, officials said Friday.

The state and city said they are reviewing their options, including a possible appeal, which must be filed within 30 days.

"We thought the request we put together was pretty comprehensive in relation to other requests I've seen," said Chas Eby, a spokesman for the Maryland Emergency Management Agency, which prepared the governor's request.

In a June 12 letter, Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator W. Craig Fugate wrote that after reviewing all available information, the agency determined that federal aid "is not appropriate for this event."

The Mayor gave permission for the damage, now the mayor must pay for the consequences.

Absolutely right, 12:57.
This is Baltimore's mess to clean up.. their policies caused it.
Maybe they can get a donation from O'Malley.

My understanding is FEMA is for natural disasters not an idiotic mayor in charge allowing riots to occur. I bet she feels stupid now. The only disaster I see is her decisions and the fact she still has a job.

Why does he think the Federal government should clean this up ? Baltimore's problem they need to pay for it

Let Baltimore residents sleep in the mess they made.

Burn the rest of it down. Used to be a nice city. Now it is a rat trap. Move the O's and the Ravens to shore. Then let the thugs come here and start their b.s. Blacks and Whites on the shore do not tolerate b.s. Wish we could be our own state. Good people here all in all.

Did FEMA actually make a good, correct decision?
Holy cow, heads are gonna roll...

Good! Why should every taxpayer in the country have to pay for man-made destruction?

Put the mayor out on the street corner, and she can earn the money to rebuild the city, after all, that is obviously how she got the job in the first place.
