The Ravens have received $885,000 in Defense Department ad spending since 2011

When you've seen members of the National Guard honored during Baltimore Ravens games, the troops might not have been there strictly for patriotic reasons.

The Baltimore Ravens are among 14 NFL teams that have received a combined total of $5.4 million from the U.S. Department of Defense since 2011, the Bergen Record first reported. New Jersey Advance Media expanded on the report, publishing a database that shows the Ravens received $884,500 for what amounts to ad spending for the National Guard.

When asked about the nature of the contracts with the Defense Department, Kevin Byrne, a team spokesman, wrote in an email that the Ravens "don't share that type of information [regarding] sponsorship or suite holder contracts."

Don't you get it, yet?

The NFL has become the gladiator contests in Rome, right before the fall of the empire. All this cash to promote the military, obamacare, anti-gun rhetoric, and the "non-profit" status of the multi-billion dollar NFL shows the league has effectively been nationalized and become a propaganda arm of the government.

Guys (and girls) are into this soap-opera like fascination with the league, more concerned about their favorite player's elbow than how the government has given our jobs away, how to provide for their kids' education, or important pending legislation like the TPP or PATRIOT Act renewal.
