Military suicide rates dropped from 522 to 479 in 2013, DOD report reveals

Almost 500 military men and women committed suicide in 2013, an official report reveals.

The figures have been lauded by the Department of Defense as a significant decrease from 522 the previous year.

Of the 479, active duty troops made up 259 of the suicides, and 220 were reservists.

However, experts caution against suggesting a steady decline in fatalities as initial reports showed an increase in the first half of 2014.

False statistic there are less people in the military

The statistic would be more realistic if compared with the actual number of people in the affected group, expressed as a percentage.
