This Just In From A Viewer: Protestors blocking the Salisbury parade

I got a Facebook post from a friend at the parade, that protesters are blocking it and the cops are now arresting them.

I really can't validate it, other than I have no reason not to believe her.

Update 2:54: Some of the protesters are by Wi-hi now, cops still dealing with the issue.

I also heard they are congregating by Wi-hi

I am sure this could be quite frightening for little kids that are simply there to see santa and do not understand what this is all about.

I'm going to protest the protesters by purchasing another firearm this Christmas. Who's with me?

Supposedly they are headed to the Seaford parade tonight.

I need to make the following statement.

Ever since the Ferguson incident we have been fielding some of the most racist comments we've ever experienced.

That being said, what makes so many of YOU feel like you are so much better then anyone else?

I can tell you personally that we have carefully studied these comments to make sure they are not racist as we respect your freedom of speech BUT COME ON FOLKS! Some of you recently are just wasting our time.

That being said, from here on out, ANY comment we deem racist will now get spammed, meaning you will NOT be able to comment here any longer, on ANY article.

You want to waste our time, fine. We have a perfectly good way of showing YOU how we will not stand for it any more.

You've been warned.

Anonymous said...

Thank you Joe for taking the stand against racist remarks. This blog is no place for them.

OH GOOD GRIEF.... Poor kids... Kids went to the parade (and some marching in the parade) to enjoy the Christmas spirit. Now they have that ruined. I think there is a time and place for everything in this country and these people that are picketing have a right to do so...but why be the Grinch that stole Christmas from children for goodness sake?

Anonymous said...

These people doing this just don't have it right...one thing to gather on Lake Street and push it to walk two blocks to SPD, it's a whole new ballgame when they disrupt a parade for kids! What, what! ??? did this accomplish?

Anonymous said...

It's time that the decent black community step forward and stop this crap.

Anonymous said...

I was there. In front of WI middle. They were there with a police line in front of them. This is after the incident at the start of the parade. I can tell you as a parent with a child in the marching band, seeing police cars doing 80 in front of you with lights is truly frightening. The other thing, those idiots would chant their slogans as the bands stopped to perform for the judges. Their message was totally lost in their assinine actions.

Anonymous said...

Two people were arrested.

Anonymous said...

@3:04 - i think i got all the guns i need but i'm never opposed to more ammo. I think if the 'bury chapter of "pants up, don't loot" wants to get the word out they should pay the entry fee and build a float. I'll bring the rotten eggs and tomatoes...

Anonymous said...

The protesters were not bothering any one

Anonymous said...

This group of 25~30 started out across from the judging stand then worked their way up the street in front of the church. They lacked organization and appeared more like a mob that an organized protest.

My question is why disrupt a Christmas parade? Should I go to your church and disrupt a service because of tax increases? Just plain stupid!

The SBY PD reacted quickly when it was apparent that this group intended to interfere with the parade and minimized the disruption. Excellent work SBYPD!

My only concern was that the mob being escorted along the side of the road would act up and some kid waiting for a piece of candy would get pepper sprayed.

I did see a woman being taken from the scene in the back of a cruiser. Not sure if it was a result of this situation.

Great picture of my back!

Not with the kids being afffected..and i am African American....it served no real purpose...

Anonymous said...

Yes they were 437, they bothered plenty of people around me who were concerned for their children. It only takes one idiot protestor for things to change drastically. I am all for peaceful protesting. This family event was not the time or place.

@4:32
Agree wholeheartedly. We have a large community of very decent people, some are black, some white, Asian, Hispanic and Middle Eastern...all good people. Time for us all to step up...this crap needs to see its end!

I beg to differ that the protesters were not bothering anyone....not only did they try to stop the parade causing a police response (and a whole host of worried parents), but they also yelled and chanted while the parade participants were performing.

Anonymous said...

I doubt that the driving force behind any local demonstrations comes from the black sheeple we see in these images. Some race baiting group with a much larger agenda than Ferguson Missouri or Salisbury Maryland is behind/pushing the idiots you see. It used to be at voting time all the votes that could be bought with a half pint of whiskey would meet on voting day. The Democrats would go to where the drunks always congregated and keep them liquored up all day, giving them fresh half pints on their ride to and from the polls. Liquor and empty promises still work on small police hating minds. Find out who and what is the driving force behind the black sheeples today, and you'll find out some organizations much larger agenda. Small minds love to be in on a secret, a half pint of whiskey would buy you access. These idiots don't make signs nor do they own an American flag. This has to be the work of a large racist organization, not a few blacks with nothing to do on a sunday day dreaming about the ills of law enforcement.

I think color was one of G-d's best creations. Black, white, tan, yellow, red, blue, green, and the list goes on. To say one color is better than another is blasphemy. A time like this makes me sit back and wonder what the government is trying to push through while the people of this country are preoccupied with hating one another. I did hear something about a UN bill that would effect millions of Americans.

How can you say they weren't bothering anyone? They went against police demands in the middle of a parade for children. Not the time or place. At all.

Spoken like a true wannabe tyrant. Let me guess, you want the names so you can punish them for exercising their rights?

How about some first amendment zones too? Put them out in a field somewhere so no one has to be bothered to hear them. How dare they interupt our good time and entertainment with such a bogus thing as constitutional rights.

The nerve of some people. If they want rights they should leave and go to......wait. Where else can you go now and have rights? The middle east maybe? How about Russia?

December 7, 2014 at 3:13 PM"

I agree. There are many countries where they would be immediately arrested, tried and executed in one day for protesting. The American flag is what gives them the right to protest. If they can't respect that, then they don't belong here.
As far as protesting, go ahead and protest on the sidelines but when you interrupt a parade for children, you have reached the lowest of the low because you aren't respecting others rights to enjoy the parade.

Anonymous said...

4:47- the message will be heard but it takes more than people hearing the message. In order for the message to be heard in a way that matters, the protesters have to gain respect and interrupting a parade makes people hate them and the message becomes lost and the protesters do more harm than good.

Anonymous said...

They have a right to protest 6:40 not interrupt a parade. There's a difference between protesting and showing you ass and acting common which was what some did.
Name names, name family members names and post addresses like CNN did with the cop in Ferguson.

AWESOME

Anonymous said...

You're an idiot. The driving force behind a protest doesn't have to be a large organization with a hidden agenda, but a cause that people believe in and are willing to stand for. I don't believe that today's protesters pick the best opportunity to protest, but it did exactly what they wanted it to do. It brought attention to their cause. And I as well had children at the parade, but I used the event as a teaching moment.

Anonymous said...

All I see is a bunch of borderline racist comments with no true solution. Was it unorganized? yes. should they have protested during the parade?..No but should you all be so mean hearted and cold? The same people throwing around the words like idiots, retarded and stupid are the same people that should examine who they are and what they are bringing to the world, their state, or community. It's sad to see a large amount of grown people including the protesters act like children. Grow up and be civil because although you're a different race then most of the protesters..your attitudes are the exact same!!!

Anonymous said...

I would like to know the names of these protesters and I would think they would be more than willing to provide their names. They should be proud.
But they won't because liars (hands up) are cowards and haven't the guts to identify themselves.

These posts just go to show you that racism is very much alive. The ignorance and stupidity of the simple minded people writing some of these posts just makes me shake my head. I applaud those individuals who protested today. Stand for what you believe and bring attention to the injustice.

Oh dear lord, can you be any more obtuse?

It was exactly the time and place for a protest. Because you say it wasn't, that's the reason rights are a nuisance. You want it to be conveinent. You should be more concerned why there are protests in the first place other than when and where they are held.

You just don't get it and probably never will. And you will continue to be inconveinenced.

The only name you see next to the comments is Joes. The only one here truly rising up against this disgraceful behavior! Be seen and heard!!

Anonymous said...

timothy I don't even have a problem with them protesting during the parade but for God's sake do not interrupt it. Those children in the parade practiced so hard and put their hearts into the performance and should be afforded the right to perform uninterrupted.
No true solutions will come until people start using common sense and above all else start respecting others and others opinions without lowering oneself to name calling like you said timothy.

Anonymous said...

solution? you want the solution? you can't and don't want to hear the solution. The problem will solve itself if they keep pushing! Unfortunately they'll eventually get what they want, a war, that there is no way they can win! End of problem!

Being heard doesn't mean a thing. We heard a huge message when Sept 11th, 2001 happened. And what we heard then made us hate the fundamentalists. In other words, it is a whole heck of a lot more than being heard especially when the message is so flawed-Hand's Up Don't Shoot.
Such a flawed message doesn't gain respect. It creates distrust.

JoeAlbero said...

Once again I'll repeat what I said in a comment last week.

IF this was about a 14 year old being beaten by a LOCAL Officer, that would be one thing, BUT IT'S NOT.

This was a CHRISTMAS Parade.

I think each and every one of you know, I'm all about EVERY ONE'S 1st amendment right. HOWEVER, there is also the ABUSE of that right as well and in this case I believe they abused it.

Protests are supposed to be ORGANIZED and PEACEFUL. Nothing here was organized and clearly not peaceful.

There were way to many CHILDREN at this event and I can assure you, IF the public knew something like this might happen they would not attend.

So what did they get out of this, more angry people at their cause. NOT because they don't support their belief but because they subjected women and children to hostility and physical altercations with law enforcement.

As for the Flag being upside down, perhaps I went too far in my earlier comment. If I offended anyone, please forgive me. I am a very proud American who would NEVER abuse the American Flag. Don't Tread On Me.

This is OUR Country and WE need to fix things, TOGETHER.

I'll return to my main point. The Eastern Shore has enough of our OWN problems that need tending to. I have to wonder if this group even knows the name of the 14 year old and his Aunt who were allegedly abused by a local Officer.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the clarification 9:04 but it's still rude for them to do that.
They should be flying the flag properly because that flag is what gives them the right to protest and even chant what happens to be not true.

You "applaud" those who are spreading a message by chanting "hands up don't shoot- that isn't accurate in other words a lie? Some especially children don't know the truth and that the hands up story was proven to be false. You are teaching them wrong!
All I can say is-Wow, what in the world is in your heart!

Anonymous said...

I really do admire that these people were willing to band together and protest what they see as an injustice. 99.9% of Americans just bend over and take it.

That being said, disrupting the parade was tacky and created a potentially dangerous situation around plenty of children and the elderly. And creating a situation like this when nearly all of SPD is within a mile probably wasn't a great idea, either.

If they had shut down District court for a day and kept people from getting speeding tickets, the protesters would probably be heroes. If they got together outside the GOB and respectfully requested the presence of Mr Ireton and Chief Duncan, they probably would have gotten a meeting to discuss any issues related to our city's PD. But disrupting a community event like this regarding matters a thousand miles away that doesn't affect our community is just plain tacky.

Thank you, SPD for getting a handle on the situation. It seems as if you did a great job today.

To the protesters - thank you for caring about our society and trying to put together a message. I hope that you can use the lessons of the day to be more effective and respectful of your neighbors in the future.

These protests are rapidly destroying any credibility they may have had.

Half of those teenagers did not hear the facts of the case in Ferguson. Nor did they listen to the forensics. There is no reason to barge in on a happy family holiday event just to act like immature, ignorant people. It's a shame that the racism card has to be played whenever it is an african american being shot by a Caucasian officer, yet many cases of african american officers shooting a caucasion person, and they go unnoticed. One last thing, does "protesting" really help the case that had nothing to do with them? Or does it make caucasion people who may be racist see them as nice people?

Anonymous said...

Right 9:46. Young people don't know the facts of Ferguson and they are being lied to about them making it seem that cops shoot people standing there with their hands up!

I like to know what they are being charged with. That's part of the problem in today's society, you get arrested for practicing your rights as a American citizen. Last time I checked freedom of speech and freedom to protest are two of those rights.

Anonymous said...

Should have been a lot more arrests made. You have the video. Identify them and charge every single person for not obeying a lawful order. They could have stood on the sidewalk all day long and sent their message. Instead they just gave more ammunition to the argument against their protest.

Anonymous said...

IT'S "PANTS UP! DON'T LOOT!"

Anonymous said...

Amaris - Freedom does not include blocking traffic, disturbing the peace and not following an order to get out of the street.

All they had to do was to stay on the sidewalk and they could have been there all day.

They also brought it into an area where there were a lot of non participating citizens, who's safety is trumped by any protesters who were not following basic protocol.

Anonymous said...

Obama took all those rights of freedom of speech away last year. Remember?

Anonymous said...

Who don't know the facts of the case?? It's already put out there its the simple fact that things are happening and nothing is done. Why can't a officer get indicted for murder?? Because they have a badge? Like come on as it was said majority of the law enforcement is Caucasians so there are more likely to be a white officer shooting a African American. That Christmas parade is the same old parade nothing new since I was a little kid same goes for the same lights at the city park. Protestors can practice what they want and I don't see where the protestors was not being peaceful because they didn't walk on the sidewalk?? Come on understandable the kids may be scared but now in today's world you just don't teach the kids about someone's Santa Claus but about the world we live in today that still consists of rasicm, murder, violence. No one is running off of oh the cops shoot people with their hands up...it happened in the Michael brown case unarmed. Just as trayvonne martin had only a bag of skittles and a hoodie on. We as a Africa american are going to take a stand good/ bad its already happening. I'm against violence but I'm a believer in being heard and taking a stand. When blacks were slaves did they have a chance at all what so ever to TO TAKE A STAND???...NO!!! that was a rhetorical question don't you think! So now when people "Blacks" take a stand everyone expects it to be peaceful. When there is anger, frustration, disbelief,in us as people now we stand. We all shed the same thing blood so why do the protestors and African Americans have to take a seat now. Js.

Danielle said...

I work for a local business that was on the road of the parade. We were handing out advertisements when I noticed children crying. A little girl was nestled against her mom with her face buried in her chest, sobbing. It wasn't until then what I realized what I had missed until I heard the protestors hollering. I saw police walking with them across the street (not touching them) where they continued into the park. As a 23 year old, this even shook me a bit; and I hadn't even seen the graphicness of it. I used to be a little middle school flag girl that performed in the parade... I couldn't imagine how that display would've effected me then, if I'm shocked now. Seeing that little girl scared and sobbing... There is a place and a time, this was not it.

If you want to be heard, please treat others the way you'd like to be treated, with respect and thoughtfulness. If you protest angrily in a peaceful place, putting innocent people at risk... Whether it be physical or emotional is wrong.

I don't know the whole story, and I'm not afraid to show my ignorance in the matter. But I know what I saw and I know the difference between a proper way to behave and how not to. If everyone would just stop harassing against race and gender and see the people doing the wrong doings instead then maybe people could grow past this rising racial issue and realize not everyone is perfect and before race or gender there were still murderers and theives. Its the people, not their skin or background.

Please stop feeding this kind of behavior and dragging out the actions of people we cannot control.

Claudia Balzac said...

You have the right to say whatever you want, but you do not have the right to disrupt a planned event.

No permission was obtained beforehand to stage a "protest" or to join the parade, for that matter. It's just total lack of respect for others, which goes back to the very source of the problem.

Claudia Balzac said...

Excellent idea! And a few extra boxes of shells for the cabinet.

Claudia Balzac said...

I doubt many even know what that means.

This "protest" had nothing to do with "civil rights", please don't give those race~baiting scumbags that distinction as credibility.

They're protesting that justice was done in Ferguson but they just didn't like the conclusion. Science clearly proved Saint Michael was the aggressor, and got what he asked for.

@ 7:34pm You anoint yourself as understanding Quote: a cause that people believe in and are willing to stand for. What is that cause 7:34pm? And what was it you taught your children 7:34pm? What did they learn? Did you also teach your children to discard and overlook the facts of the grand jury's decision regarding the strong arm thief Michael Brown in Ferguson Missouri that had three blacks on that same jury? Or when he slammed the door on the officer trying to get out of his police cruiser trying to answer the call from the store where big black bully had just walked away from and is now reaching inside the police car trying to take the officer's gun? Did you tell your children about that 7:34pm? I doubt that you told them any of it, including the black lady junior #10 who came forward and spoke on the officers behalf who said she yelled at Michael Brown as he rushed towards the officer holding his gun telling Michael Brown to STOP. The lady said to big bad black Michael, Lay Your Ass Down, meaning get down and obey law enforcement. Did you tell your kids that 7:34pm? Liars always come up with excuses for disrespect and/or disobeying law enforcement. Everybody and anybody other than themselves is to blame by their accounts. Your liberal bias overshadows any common sense that you may once have held. Know that your children will suffer for your own intellectual shortcomings and utter disregard for facts. You willfully place your children on the same path, the low culture of, the protesters you regard so highly. The protesting that happened in Salisbury Md. has nothing at all to do with Ferguson Missouri and Michael Brown. It was a dog and pony show for small minds which are forever cloudy, fogged up with inane logic. You're not much of a parent in my book 7:34pm!

You do have the right to a peaceful protest and in some cases a permit to protest. You do not have the right to protest in the middle of the street blocking traffic. You do not have the right to protest and disobey a lawful order of a peace officer. You do not have the right to protest and block a parade for children. You do not have the right to assault a police officers.

Well if all they were doing was practicing their rights as an American citizen, then that would be fine.
What they did was injected themselves into the parade, causing a disturbance for not only the audience but for the other parade participants who registered and paid a fee. Protesting doesn't mean you are entitled to not follow the rules.

5:09 Has hit the nail on it's head.
Protesting is fine, but when it's message is flawed as in cops shoot dead people who are standing their with their hands up, something is fundamentally flawed with those people.
To stand their and be able to chant a lie, suggests how low some have sunk.
This basic pillar of civility-honesty-is lost in these people. They are spreading a false message and young people not knowing any better hear it and believe it.

Anonymous said...

12:36 cops do get indicted for murder, when and if the evidence suggests that the death was in fact a murder. Murder isn't just merely killing someone. Murder is a legal term and other factors have to be present.
Just because some don't like the outcome of a jury's decision, doesn't mean justice hasn't been served. Anytime justice is served not all involved are pleased with the decision.
Your comment is indicative of the real problem. You are an excuse maker and an enabler. How dare you say just because the parade is the same old same old that gives someone the right to disrupt it for others. How dare you and how dare your parents for not teaching you even the basics such as respect for others.
Michael Brown died only because he lacked respect and felt he was entitled to steal from someone else.

12:36 says--"No one is running off of oh the cops shoot people with their hands up...it happened in the Michael brown case unarmed."

BECAUSE THE COPS DON'T SHOOT PEOPLE WITH THEIR HANDS UP! Name ONE just ONE instance where a cop shot someone with their hands up!
FYI-Brown stuck his arms in the police vehicle, assaulted the cop, tried to grab cops gun and got his hand shot. He ran a few feet, cop gave a little bit of a chase, stopped, Brown turned around charges at cops and was shot dead 10 ft away from the cop.
Not my story, but the story of 7 eye witnesses who happen to be black.

To add to the 8:15 comment, testimony included black eye witnesses who testified that a black lady was yelling at Brown to "lay your ass down."
I've read a lot of the transcripts and plan on reading the whole way through them.

This is satire or something, right? That's the only explanation I have for the irony of you calling someone "dumb" but also saying "pethetic" and "itiotic." If that was purposeful, spot on. If not, well, take a look in the mirror, turns out you're the moron.

I've been seeing these signs on TV saying No Justice No Peace.
This is the problem The so called civil rights movement of the 60's while they created equal rights, they did more to cause racism than anything else ever.
Same going on today. The protesters are creating racism by not being truthful about the facts of Ferguson.
Take the looting, burning rioting that went on in the 60's and in Ferguson.
People may acquiesce and give you what you want but that doesn't mean they think you are an equal or will treat you as an equal or that they even like you.
People don't like people who are destructive and create chaos and they paint a broad brush of the picture.
The rioting give all black people a bad name and they can't argue because in their minds ALL cops are bad.

Joe, bravo on blocking racist/hateful comments.

They could be arrested for a number of things..the fact I'd if you have a valid pint to get across do it like an educated human being where someone will listen not like another dumb monkey jumping in the national circus news flash no body gives a fuck about Salisbury and nothing is happening here to care about..all this omg blsck people dying shit Is getting annoying..white people die as well as Mexicans and everyone else in the world stop following the stereo type and you won't be takin for it.

so sad at a time when we are supposed to be thankful for the things we do have. what would Jesus do?

Tired of "tough on crime", ok then stop doing the crime should be the answer and not well lets just stop arresting the criminals. That would lead to mass chaos, if you follow that logic, remove all the stop signs, stop lights, speed limit signs, guard rails, lines on the roads, etc. Why should we have signs and lights telling us what to do.... There is a fine line (called the thin blue line) between this world we live in and total chaos, actually we are living in organized chaos now. The average person just doesn't realize that. Pull that line back more and that means more chaos fills the space.
It is so much easier to blame someone else than yourself, in these situations I hope you include in your statistics income and education levels. I think you will find that it is more a correlation between a poverty level and not race. I know in the Wicomico school system they it is being preached to not arrest any minorities since their number of arrest are high and they could lose funding. If you look it shows that most of the trouble makers come from the ones that are on free or reduced lunch programs, that is much more direct than race.
I think that this culture of having children when you can't afford them and making living on governmental assistance a way of life ruins so many lives in the process. We need to restructure those programs and force people to reinvent themselves or this trend will continue.
It is not a race issue.

Joe I have this to say in response to your 3:54 comment it is time we put on the media coverage on recent events in this country as well as here to bed. Let the families, law including courts handle it. The more we cover it and stir it up the worse it seems to get. If it was not covered the protestors would not get what they want and it would stop. Make all coverage and comments simply the facts short and sweet and then stop. It is the only way all people will heal.
God Bless to all.

Amaris, you might want to double check, because I'm not sure that you "checked" the first time. There is no "freedom to protest". When people talk about their right to protest, it is usually under the blanket of "freedom of speech" combined with the "freedom to assemble" and the "freedom of association" in the First Amendment. There is not really any "Right to Protest" anywhere in our Constitution. In most places, Lawful Protest is protected under Speech and Assembly, but requires a permit. Does Salisbury require (as many cities do) a permit to protest? If so, did these protesters obtain said permit?

The Right to Assemble (which most people think means "right to protest") protects the right to collectively express and defend ideas. This can include Protest, as long as any said protest conforms with typical constraints on Assembly. Those constraints typically include Time, Place, and Manner Restrictions as set forth in Ward v R.A.R and the requirement of Permitting.

Time, Place, and Manner Restrictions effect ALL protests.

Permitting is typically required in any protest which might effect public safety. A good example of this is protesting in areas where large numbers of children are expected to be present (as with the Parade).

12:36 - get off the 'slavery' excuse already! Africans were not the only ethnicity sold into slavery....what about the Scottish, the Irish, the Chinese? And speaking of being 'sold', guess who sold those Africans into slavery? AFRICANS! In fact, there is STILL slavery in Africa! I'm SO SICK of hearing about slavery. YOU were never a slave. YOU have rights and privileges in this wonderful USA that MANY white people fought for and died for you to get and have.

Here's a novel idea....how about the African American community HONOR their ancestors' struggles and sacrifices by making something out of themselves and DISPROVING the stereotype.

All those protestors did was p*ss people off and when people are p*ssed off, they SHUT YOU OUT! They looked stupid because they are using a LIE to build their cause. So quit living living the lie, educate yourself on the facts, and build your case. MLK is hanging his head in shame.

While we recognize that some valuable information can only be obtained off the record, it is unfair to air a source’s opinion on a subject of coverage when the source’s identity and motives are shielded from scrutiny. And of course, we do not include anonymous attacks posted on the Web on this blog in my opinion...

What does practicing civil rights of a case 17+ hours away have to do with a community celebration? The forensics prove that Brown was in the wrong. Many officers go out of there way to help everyone, of any race, so before all officers are doomed as bad people, understand that they put their lives on the line to protect ours. I guarantee if it was your father involved in a case like this, you would be taking his side. Yes it is sad that Brown lost his life, but Wilson was defending his safety. Does going out "protesting" and disturbing peace help anything? Or does it make the situation ten times worse? Think about it.

Time to move away from the protests. Interrupting and causing people to feel uncomfortable does nothing to win the hearts and minds of people.
Oh while the protests may cause LE to acquiesce and change procedure and/or implement new policy, it is done with a reluctance from a good percentage of the population. This does nothing to eradicate racism and only will cause it to rear it's head more.

Disassociate from blacks they're all racist.
