Wicomico Republican Leaders: Please, Not Again!

Just like four years ago, with less than one month before early voting starts, Republican candidates for County executive and Council membership are getting no significant organizational support by their party. This past weekend is a case in point – rather than spending Saturday promoting the candidates with voters, the local Republican club held a special fete for a prominent national party member, whose presence here and adulation by locals does little if anything to generate votes this fall.

Although it may attract some new party members and raise money, this sort of “big name” event should have been held many months ago. And, if little or no effort was made at the Allen West gala to enlist a group to work actively for this year’s candidates, that opportunity was wasted.

Then, there’s the Republican club’s website, which does not even suggest that we are having an election this fall, much less provide information about the candidates (or even identify them) or links to their websites. Duh.

This situation reflects the local party leadership, such as a local blogger who focuses largely on state and national matters and several long-time members of the club and/or central committee who are seen only at the club’s meetings and social events. Unless things change immediately, this year’s election could be déjà vu all over again or much worse than just four more years with Rick Pollitt in charge.

The local Democrat party led by Phil Tilghman, Michael Pretl, etc. have hatched a plan to seize control of the Council by taking the seats being vacated by Republicans who are not running for reelection. The Democrat party has enlisted a slate of ultra liberal candidates that are being falsely portrayed as moderate and highly qualified. Their actual views and records are being carefully concealed from public scrutiny, as this blog has pointed out in previous posts.

With one sure Democrat and John Hall on the Council, all they need to control the Council is for two of their candidates to win. You can’t sit on your butts and let Pollitt have another term, and if both he and the Democrat Council candidates win, Wicomico County will sink to the level of Salisbury or lower.

This blog exposed one of their candidates, Ron Pagano, ending his campaign that was being managed by Pretl. But Pagano is just one part of the Democrat plan to take over the Council with a majority composed of Josh Hastings, Laura Mitchell, and Kirby Travers.

The Republican party should follow the Democrat lead in working long and hard to get out the vote for Bob Culver (County Exec.) and for the Council, John Cannon, Larry Dodd, Joe Holloway, Matt Holloway and Mark Kilmer. Don’t let Wicomico County become a larger version of Salisbury.

I agree. The woman in charge who is doing most of their websites and facebook pages has let them down. NOTHING is on some of their pages and I know the Republican candidates are working hard and attending lots of events, but you would never know that by their websites.

With regard to the Dems...is Rick even running a campaign. Can't find any current info on him. His election facebook page has had nothing posted in a couple years. Seems like he is counting on what Mackes is able to do as his campaign. isn't there a law against using your office like that?

There's not a lot of value in party politics. If we were a huge county that could support lots of graft, it would be a totally different story!

MR. PHIL TILGHMAN IS THE MAN. HE SHOULD RUN FOR MAYOR.

Sucks to be Redumblicans!

Republican party is just like everything else in Wicomico County joke. We need the party to support our candidates not take credit if they win.

will vote straight Republican, but the party apparatus is clueless as to how to get out the vote and use social media. sad

Thanks for this post. I am a lifelong republican that is simply over the local Republican party. They do nothing for the candidates but throw a few dollars their way. However, the woman who is taking the candidates money and producing the information that she promised should be run out of the party but I think she is the president of the club. Go figure. I'm over them.

Voting on strict party lines is a way to show you're a moron. D or R. Do your research, it's all out there. Look in more places than a blog, or other party hack site. Educate yourselves, or the ES will remain the inbred stain that it has become.

Ah, all the anonymous malcontents who sit back and complain. How many of you show up to HQ to help out candidates? It's easy to complain about stuff. But if you want to know why the local GOP can't support candidates as much as you'd like, then look in the mirror. Where are all the people showing up to volunteer, knock doors, make phone calls, drive people to the polls, etc? If the people showed up, there's a plan to put them to work.

Party affiliation in local elections mean next to nothing...how do these candidates stand on issues that matter to you? Who cares what party they belong to?

2:03 sucks to be a libtarded dumbocrat commie

you can't mean to vote for ANY democrat. are you crazy? there is not one democrat who cares about how they spend our dollars. not one of them has EVER owned and run a business. everyone of the dems believe in "tax and spend" and more and more regulations!!! every democrat goes along with the liberal state government and all the crap they send to the counties. they just go along to get along; never questioning anything. again; are you out of your mind???!!! prove me otherwise if you can.

by the way, as a seasoned voter, I get voting for both parties according to their beliefs and record, been there, done that many times. NOT anymore.

Very original 4:48.

I have never been a "straight party voter" in any of my last 20 elections, but I have to announce that this time, as a resident of Salisbury, MD, there are absolutely no Democrats running that are worth ten cents.

This year, it's a no brainer to vote all "R"!

Anonymous said...

You are correct, Joe. There is a 3 word leader on their calendar page for election day itself, but no notes about early voting dates, and nothing anywhere that says there's an election or who is running where.

They need a page where you can type in your address and be guided to all the candidates' websites.

They just plain don't.

Here it is if you like the way Wicomico County has been for the last eight years then vote the same as always, But if you would like a change see more business stay, have your tax rate stay the same or possibly go down then vote for Bob Culver. Look what we all have lost and can we take the chance of losing a lot more, and trust me there is a lot more to lose if thing stay the same.

Anonymous said...

To 6:43 Poster that said - Vote for Culver - so as to see more businesses stay.

I couldn't agree with you more.

Hell, I would just love to see (1) business stay. It seems as though Wicomico and MD have served NOTICE on all businesses - (CLOSED).

Good post and very timely. It is beginning to resemble the 2010 election that they handed to Tricky Rick. Bob Culver seems to be working harder than Ollinger did, but where's the party support?

Anonymous said...

With our mainstream media, it is fairly easy for candidates like Mitchell and Hastings to fool the voters. Thanks to this blog they may not pull it off.

Kudos for stopping Pagano (and Pretl/Pollitt/Tilghman) by revealing his pre-Wicomico County past.

Anonymous said...

All of you who are posting in favor of Bob - please support him with donations and signs in your yard. The Dems are going to pull out all the stops to keep him from winning. Bob needs all the help we can give him. The County can't survive 4 more years of Rick the empty suit and all those he allows to feed off of us. The Republican Party is weak. They were supposed to be helping him with his website. Bob will win with his own hard work and grass roots help from people like us.

You ARE kidding, right?

Has Mr. Monoblogue Swartz ever pounded the pavement for a local candidate?

Anonymous said...

1:55 Don't let Phil Tilghman fool you! He supports Laura Mitchell. That should tell you something. Thank goodness he couldn't be mayor because he doesn't live in the City.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for informing us about Hastings. Please keep the spotlight on him and the other Dem. losers like Mitchell.

This Saturday, the Wicomico GOP is hosting a big effort to get people to knock on doors and make calls for our local candidates. I trust that there will be a lot of local people there considering how many people are complaining anonymously here. Right? Or will it be the usual, with a few committed local people showing up and everyone else just whining anonymously?

It's easy to complain, people. If you're really upset, get to work. Show up at 1:00 on Saturday at the HQ (the old Mr. Paul's Legacy) and you can start working to elect Carl Anderton, Bob Culver, and everyone else.

Let me assure you, as a former candidate, the local republican club does NOTHING to help support their candidates.

I have been running this Blog for some 10 years now and I have watched them ignore 95% of the candidates and in fact they have invited DEMOCRAT candidates to speak at their gatherings.

Little do ALL of you know that Salisbury and Wicomico County are controlled by the special interests, most of which are democrats.

Think about this for just a moment...

The Chamber of Commerce holds a forum for Salisbury candidates, yet next to NONE of their members actually LIVE in the City and CANNOT vote. I almost said NO to attending their forum when I ran for Mayor but didn't want to come off disrespectful. I(n the end I beat the crap out of Ireton in that forum and while the Chamber clearly gave their questions in ADVANCE to Shields, Day and Ireton, I didn't care. I wanted to answer right from the HIP to be TRUTHFUL. ALL of the major questions concerning the future of Salisbury were NEVER asked by the Chamber. In fact, I'd answer their questions quickly and then I'D use the rest of my time bringing up the lock out ordinance, affordable housing in the parking lots Downtown and so forth.

It forced Ireton to answer my statements but believe me, the Chamber did NOT like me doing that. I didn't care. I wanted the TRUTH out there.

The republican club is run by RINO'S and if you believe anything different you're an Idiot.

Anonymous said...

The rino's are the candidates. i can't vote for either republican i've seen. now that Gail B. is gone i don't even know who's in my district. but none of the above would i vote for.

It's a mistake allowing Jackie Welfonder to be president. She seems to be promoting her own agenda and has no clue running a club. Nice girl, but clueless. Especially when she is friends with Jim Ireton, Jake Day and the other Democrat Goons.

9:13, That's an easy COP OUT.

As I stated in a different Post for Mike McDermott's fundraiser in Ocean City, the Republicans there are excited, positive and 100% supportive. In Wicomico County, you've been beat up by the likes of Barrie Tilghman, Jim Ireton, Chuck Cook and the like. And I'll most certainly add, The Daily Times. They have attacked good candidates and seated politicians, ("The Council Of No's) and every other editorial attack.

It's time to UNITE and FIGHT BACK. It's time everyone realize the DT's is NOTHING any more. Yes, for many grey hairs they have a following but other than that, they are nothing.

I say this with complete confidence. As I was showing others our traffic here on Salisbury News, (which proves we out do ANY news source on the Shore) even IF you are NOT a Republican, YOU ARE COMING TO SALISBURY NEWS EVERY SINGLE DAY.

Now there might be people out there who swear they do not, more than likely they are lying. We get way too much LOCAL traffic and considering the Eastern Shore has far more democrats than republicans, I know what I am saying is absolutely true.

SO FIGHT BACK, UNITE AND START SUPPORTING THESE REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES. Do NOT let these select few democrats attack you any more.

Anonymous said...

Joe I agree with you 9:35 AM statement. It's time to join forces to fight back and help all Republican candidates.

On the local level the two candidates that will need the most help is Bob Culver and Larry Dodd. Each and everyone of you need to do whatever you possibly can to help them get elected. Please contact their campaigns and offer whatever assistance you can give them. They are going to need more than you just saying you are going to vote for them. They need your family and your friends to vote for them. They need volunteers to go door to door. They need sign locations and volunteers to help put them out. They can be found on Facebook so search their names and like their pages. You can contact them on Facebook and offer your assistance. You don't even have to live in Wicomico County to help them. There is so much that you can do to help their campaigns so please contact them and remember to vote for all Republicans.

Just do what I am going to do. Vote with my feet and leave this corrupt tax draining city and state. Leave it to the libtards and their welfare voters. Sit back and watch it all go bankrupt just like Detroit. This city isn't worth the effort to save and neither is Maryland.

The Democrats already have control of the council with John Hall,Matt Holloway and Stevie Prettyman. Rinos if there ever was any.
