MARYLAND FOOD DRIVE FALLS SHORT OF GOAL IN TIME OF RISING NEED

BALTIMORE – Sometimes, more than 16 tons is not enough

On Tuesday, the final day of Hunger Action Month, the Maryland Food Bank, a nonprofit hunger organization, weighed a total of 33,405 pounds in donations of food and other goods from its most recent food drive.

Even with the help of a “virtual food drive,” this fell shy of its goal
to beat the September 2013 collection of 35,000 pounds.

The drop in donations comes at a time of rising food insecurity in a
state where people are still feeling the effects of an economic
recession and cuts to federal food assistance programs.

Why do we still have these? Obama made it so easy for anyone to get food stamps. I got more than I will ever use, I sell the extra!

Go in there some time during their regular "distribution" days and you will see for yourself what a sham it is.
They do not appreciate what they are getting.

The food banks only distribute to "churches" and other "organizations" that are supposed to distribute the food to the needy.
Most of them keep it for themselves and their families.

I donate to a local food pantry that is run by a church. They were not given ANYTHING from the food bank. They had to buy everything they got from them. Some of the time it was cheaper to just buy it from the store rather than from the food bank. Once I found that out I stop donating anything directly to the food bank. I will continue to donate to food pantries run by the different churches.
