That's how it was when I was getting them as a USMC Sergeant in the 70's. I rode my bicycle to work on base because food was more important...bonus was I got better daily exercise. I have since graduated from that program and was happy to proclaim when I did!

If you can budget your money to afford an iPhone - you should be disqualified for food stamps...or get a reduced amount!

Food stamps are designed for survival, not subsistence. If you're getting enough where you don't have to decide between the data plan bill or dinner, you're getting too much!

We could employ some folks on unemployment to be case managers for welfare/food stamp recipients and do regular updated means testing...we would still save a boatload of money!

It's still obvious when someone pulls out a bright ass orange and yellow vibrant colored card to pay for food.. so obvious. Usually they are wearing brand new Nikes and driving a nice car with rims on it too. LOL

10:20 - I have seen it too many times....and the means-testing case managers would have access to where the benefits were redeemed and could determine the actual lack of need!

Throw them in jail for fraud!

I know a gal that gets about $400 a month, single person, she goes to the casino 4 or 5 times a month and is getting ready to go on her second cruise in 2 yrs! I have worked hard for over 35 yrs and can not afford to go on a cruise! There something seriously wrong with this program!!

The ones that tick me off the most are the ones that use their EBT card to pay for their groceries and then pay cash for candy, video games and many other things that are NOT a necessity. If they have $50 dollars to spend on dvds or video games they could be putting that money towards food!

I have no clue how a single person could possibly get $400 in food stamps. The amount for a single person in Maryland is $125 a single person without children and it's limited to 3 months.

12:28 That is not true. Max food stamps for 1 is $189 mo and increasing to $194. There is no limit on how long you can get food stamps. There are people that have been getting them 50 yrs.

I used to go to a place in Milton to spend my food stamps when I was passing through there. That was in the late 70's when they LOOKED like food stamps.
