Maryland Lottery Sales Slide As Casino Revenue Surges

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Maryland’s lottery and four casinos made $849.2 million for the state in the last fiscal year, a 2.4 percent increase over the previous fiscal year, the agency that oversees gambling in Maryland reported Monday.

The increase comes as lottery sales dropped about 1.7 percent to $1.7 billion, contributing $521.1 million in revenue to the state’s general fund. Stephen Martino, director of the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency, said the lower lottery sales are attributable to the growth in Maryland’s casino industry.

“A reduction in traditional lottery revenue occurred last fiscal year, but that money combined with Education Trust Fund proceeds from casinos produced an overall increase in gaming revenue to the state,” Martino said.

A 2.4% increase. However, do tell us how much more they spent in ADVERTISING to bring the people there. Another liberal twist without all the facts.

Note that it said money to the general fund. I remember when the money went to education. Just another Democratic lie. Democrats would not approve gambling when there was a Republican Governor. As soon as O'Malley was elected, all of a sudden, Conway and Mithias thought it was a good idea.

Delaware needs another 10 million bailout this year for their casino's.I find it hard to believe Maryland is doing so well.

Atlantic City is collapsing and firing 8 thousand people in one day and the gambling establishments in this country are in good hands...Maybe the government will take them over and run them like the postal system.
