Governor Martin O’Malley Orders United States Flag and Maryland State Flag Flown at Half-staff On Thursday

This is to advise you that Governor Martin O’Malley has ordered the United States Flag and Maryland State Flag to be flown at half-staff onThursday, August 14, 2014, from sunrise to sunset. This is in memory of Major General Harold J. Greene, of Albany, NY, who died on August 5, 2014, in Kabul, Afghanistan. Major General Greene served at Aberdeen Proving Ground from 2009 to 2012. This action is taken under the Protocol for the United States and Maryland State Flag. Any questions on the above should be directed to the Office of the Secretary of State.

One of the only things I'll agree with this pos about.

Because he was a General --- from New York -- we lower the flag in Maryland??
How insulting to all the OTHER soldiers -- actually FROM Maryland -- who lost their lives or body parts in that dumbass excursion to make some American arms producers (who never served and whose kids never did either) as wealthy as kings.
Quit using the flag to showboat your fake sympathy and garner votes.
I guess, in the next day or so, he'll have a photo op and give a somber speech about "brave sacrifice" and "giving their lives to protect our freedom", when he doesn't even know the meaning of either one.

I thought only an act of Congress could order the American flag to be lowered?
