OCEAN CITY — As the date for rights to Maryland’s Wind Energy Area (WEA) off the coast of Ocean City draws closer, Worcester County is looking forward to working with the winning bidder and is laying the groundwork for helping the first wind farm in the state become a reality.
Obstacles remain, however, and all of the excitement is tempered by a desire to keep county residents comfortable.
Last week it was announced that the WEA auction will take place Aug. 19 at 2 p.m. So far 16 companies have indicated that they will take part, which Bill Badger, director of Economic Development for the county, found reassuring.

I know I am looking forward to seeing windmills and paying more for electric...woo hoo!
Electricity costs will skyrocket. Offshore wind makes even less cents then onshore because it costs 6 times more than conventional power. James Mathias has sold out Worcester County right along with Somerset.
Offshore wild power is just plain stupid. It will be a total failure.
Yes, 10:21, it will fail totally, but it's not their money they're risking to install all the junk out there just to be abandoned in ten years, it's yours!
Those 16 companies don't give a rat's pitutie whether the wind farm generates electricity or not, as it will generate billions of dollars to pay off politicians, create make work jobs, and fill the pockets of the white shirts for years to come while burning coal and gas to power the grid!
While you and I pay more in taxes and utility bills.
Feel better now?
