Qualified?

Maryland Constitution

Article IV - Judiciary Department

"SEC. 2. The Judges of all of the said Courts shall be citizens of the State of Maryland, and qualified voters under this Constitution, and shall have resided therein not less than five years, and not less than six months next preceding their election, or appointment, as the case may be, in the city, county, district, judicial circuit, intermediate appellate judicial circuit or appellate judicial circuit for which they may be, respectively, elected, or appointed. They shall be not less than thirty years of age at the time of their election or appointment, and shall be selected from those who have been admitted to practice law in this State, and who are most distinguished for integrity, wisdom and sound legal knowledge."

Within the framework of the Maryland Constitution, which Judges are sworn to uphold, who is the best candidate for Wicomico County Circuit Court Judge?

The only argument put forth by the Sarbanes campaign is his "judicial temperament." He may have temperament (whatever that is), but he also has :

No experience as lead counsel in a jury trial.

No experience in Circuit Court criminal matters.

No experience as lead counsel cases involving complex civil matters.

No experience in child custody cases.

No experience in child visitation cases.

Are we being asked to believe that "judicial temperament" trumps experience? That "judicial temperament" is more important than actually having been there?

To the Sarbanes campaign I ask..... are we to just trust the Governor that this is the most qualified candidate..... (the old "trust me, I'm from the Government" line)? Is this the candidate that is most distinguished for his/her integrity, wisdom, and sound legal knowledge? How does one become wise and gain sound legal knowledge without ever having been in the arena?

I am reminded of the line from President Ronald Reagan "trust, but verify".

No, Governor, we will not just take it on your word alone. We look, we see, we analyze, we make our decision on the facts.

Democrats can correct O'Malley's mistake (by voting for MJ Caldwell) in the upcoming primary election -- but will they with all that money that Sarbanes' relatives have donated to his campaign for his ads and flyers mailed to us.

"Judicial temperament" is a diversion from his lack of qualification. The local bar group said he was NOT qualified.

Vote for the better man - Caldwell.

Temperament is a liberal in this case and the other reason for appointment was the last name... especially since omalley would love to have the Sarbaines endorsement

Only qualification in OweMalley's eyes for this appointment was the poorly qualified candidate's last name.

judgejimmy = OweSarbanes

We deserve a qualified & competent judge; anyone but judgejimmy.

Fortunately his opponent is extremely well qualified.

Time to push back at the back-room OweBama OweMalley OwePollitt OweIreton OweSarbanes crowd.

Joe,

Can you put that tally sheet from the bar association vote in this post?

We are watching you

Thanks for moving this up, and can you add that result from the Wicomico Bar vote, please?

Like Pagano, "Jimmie" Sarbanes has been sued by several creditors. Did his family relatives bail him out ?

I am a registered dem. But damn if I will vote for this Sarbanes.

Since this judgeship is somehow split between Wicomico and Dorchester Counties, is this also on the ballot in Dorchester Co.?

I would appreciate if this post was at the top EVERY day until the election evening. I have personal knowledge of this punk and he is no way qualified for anything to do with the law. Shame he isn't like his ancestors, Dems may they be.

Jimmy Sourbeans, another from the same crop of the sourbeans family

We already have an example of lack of qualifications - in the house at PA ave in DC.....

Can't fix stupid!

Too bad that Tony didn't go away from here like his brother and sister did -- then we wouldn't have this absurdity.

Joe -

How about putting the result of the bar association vote up with this post.

There is no other than M.J.Caldwell for OUR Wicomico County Circuit Court. M.J. Caldwell is the only person with the true qualifications.
He has over 30 years of experience with all facets of the law.
If you have ever seen him in the court room, you know that he is quick on his feet and doesn't miss
a beat. Some people have called him arrogant, he is not arrogant, this is his integrity and legal
knowledge of the system.
I would only hope the citizens of
Wicomico County will do their research before the polls open.

I noticed yesterday afternoon that the Sarbanes camp has put up more "Retain Judge Jimmy" signs illegally all over the county. They are in locations that look like vacant lots or on corners or T-bone intersections like around the mall. I asked Mr. Day if the Sarbanes got permission to put his signs up on his property and he told me no.

I don't like to hear about people taking down signs, but these were put up illegally and I would encourage people to take them down if they were put up without permission.

This is the same thing that Bubba Comegys did so it's obvious it's a Democrat Thing.

Didn't you hear about the "new normal" - Democrats can break the law whenever they want to do so for "policy" reasons, even as our judges. BTW, in this instance Sarbanes is just following in Obama's wake.
