A Viewer Writes: WMDT OFF of Directv

Just FYI, at midnight this AM, all ABC affiliates were removed from DIRECTV - WMDT & CW (on the night of Game 1 of the NBA Finals - which means it is intentional, b/c basketball is no longer on TNT with the Finals starting tonight).

DirecTV states that it is a problem with ABC's company (a money deal could not be reached - ABC wanted more for Free over the air programming).

If you want to watch 47, and you are on DirecTV, better go find your old antenna.

i recommend you write WMDT

often times it is the local station asking for more money in order to be carried

Speaking of over the air antenna's, I picked up an RCA ANT1251 from Best Buy a year or two ago and I have yet to get signal past 50% for anything but MPT, I have tried it in my attic with mixed results and downstairs next to my tv, can anyone recommend a good over the air indoor antenna?

Btw I am right in Salisbury City not to far from WBOC's station (I know the antenna for them is not there!) so I should be getting decent signal strength, can't say I recommend this antenna.

Don't see this as a problem. Nothing on ABC in general, and the News is Amateur at best. I was thinking about ditching Comcast, and have now decided to getting DirecTV because of this.

@10:46 - You're trying to pull in signals from near Sharptown (WMDT) and Seaford (WBOC). You're on the fringe of needing a medium directional and a small multidirectional antenna (like your RCA one). The former will get better signal, the latter will be easier to install.

Omnidirectional - Channel Master MC-3000HD or Leaf 50 (I have a Leaf 30 and it's a bit underpowered for a first floor placement)

Directional - Channel Master MC-4220HD or Mohu Sky 60

10:46 The only problem I have is the two wboc channels, as (it has been said) they are putting out a week signal, so you buy a cable package. I get them fine through Dish, but with my digital antenna, nada. And, my antenna is top of the line, and didn't have an issue until they switched an analog signal to my Dish. Chumps.

The advertisers need to stop advertising on WMDT. That would get their attention. Disgusting. The station has been a loser since they came on the air.

direct has this note

DIRECTV must obtain permission from Marquee Broadcasting to make its local ABC station WMDT and supplemental CW shows available to any of our local Salisbury customers. Marquee is withholding that permission unless we commit families to paying nearly four times more just to see the same programs others can still receive for free.

BTW marquee hasn't owned wmdt for very long, less then a year.

Wmdt switched ownership about a month ago...wonder if that has anything to do with this.

Basketball; 3 hours of shooting baskets and it's 100-101.

Nobody "won".

I haven't tuned into any local tv channels in years, so...

I was able to look out my front door near sharptown when I had the same antenna and couldn't get 47 or mpt just 16 n mpt spanish

I'm glad this was settled quickly. WMDT has their news in HD, and now has sports. They've been spending money and trying to make a move. That is obvious.

Thanks for the heads up on the antenna, I went ahead and spent the money on getting the Amazon Basics extreme performance antenna, basically a Leaf clone. I will put it in my attic and maybe just maybe I can get WBAL and watch a real news station.

@10:46 AM

WBOC's transmitter is about 2 1/2 miles north of Delmar Road on west side Susan Beach Road.

WDMT's transmitter is about a 1/2 mile east of Sharptown Road off of Snethen Church Road.

The reason why you getting lousy signal is because it is transmitted in the high end of UHF band. You almost need line of sight to get a good signal.
