Boy Scouts President Gates says he supports gay adults' inclusion

Robert Gates, the new president of the Boy Scouts of America, said Friday that he would have moved last year to allow openly gay adults in the organization but said he opposes any further attempts to address the policy now.

Gates took over an organization this week that serves about 2.5million youth but faces continued membership declines and fights over its inclusion of openly gay boys, but not adults.

Gates, the former secretary of defense who oversaw the end of the military's 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' policy, addressed those issues Friday, a day after Scouting's national leadership elected him president.

'I was prepared to go further than the decision that was made,' Gates told The Associated Press in an interview in advance of a speech before the group's national leaders at its annual meeting in Nashville, Tennessee.

What a shame. Seriously, are there gay merit badges? Are there still WeBlows? Oh society... what have you done?

Agree 10:47. Societies norms are ruining it.

Is? No! Was? Yes.

How do you know there are several very active troops in Salisbury? If there are the people would be smart and bail out.

I saw a kid at the pool the other day wearing a BSA tee shirt and thought to myself "I know why that kid doesn't play sports instead."

The ones keeping their kids in scouts have no one to blame when their child is molested by a gay scout or by a predator scout leader.

628 You are an idiot.

6:28 you are exactly correct. A gay boy is eight times more likely to entice another boy to have sex than a girl in the same tent would be likely to have sex with him. We do not allow girls in boys tents why on earth would we allow gays. Would not the same reasoning apply?

BTW LDS troops can already have Gay Scout leaders. That is the official policy Gays can serve in any position in the Church. That does not exclude Scouting. Though they now have a policy that Gay Scout Leaders can not participate in Gay Rallies in uniform. This after three were forced out of the BSA for doing just that.

Big reason I am ex LDS.

6:28 Been going on for ages, in the BSOA, and more notably... churches. But, now we have an agenda. Yeah. YOU "people" protected the predators, and even kept them in your churches, and organizations. Nothing done, not even press charges. You guys brought this evil on yourselves. Enjoy it!
