Colt Buys LWRCI Out Of Cambridge For $60,000,000.00, Salisbury In Deep Trouble

Colt not only purchased LWRCI, they also bought Matech with the package.
Salisbury News has learned Colt will also be relocated these companies south. In other words, out of Salisbury. "The Maryland company may relocate to Florida or Texas".

Here we go again Salisbury and Wicomico County. Thanks to Governor O'Malley and President Obama, hundreds of additional jobs will be lost on the Shore. Absolutely Incredible!

You all need to hang your heads in shame you have further enslaved us..with taxes and fees gifts to criminals and loafers ..taken away constitutional rights and have created an abysmal climate for any joy for an honest working stiff..my house in fruitland is on the market ...moving to VA closer to my job at wallops..thanks to you worthless libtarded politicans in this state..im taking my native salisbury wife no kids and leaving this expensive marxist state

Heard Peake's restaurant in Princess Anne is about to close as well.

Hey fruitland has a brand new school..wanna buy a house...

I will be updating SBYnews Local Area Factory closing list ASAP. We will be doing a follow-up as a service of our residents to show people the names of Salisbury's former Pillar industries. As you can probably imagine - this latest announcement on the heal of JC Penny's closure announcement will factor-in on revisions to Wicomico/Salisbury's workforce numbers.

STAY TUNED FOR MORE!

Just further say end of the shore is coming on fast.

Cambridge is already a slum. Except for Walmart and the Hyatt, there is nothing but abandoned buildings and businesses. The old Kmart building and Shoppers Food Warehouse store has been empty for years. The town like Salisbury is already starting to look like Detroit.

Anonymous said...

Thanks, Beezer for all your hard work. It;s a dismal outlook, and the two Council's tax talk is doing nothing to help the picture. God help us all. Nobody on either council is shopping new businesses for the area, so that guarantees no hope.

If things get any worse I'm going out on the ledge and jump, oh wait, I live in my parents basement!

Anonymous said...

What in the hell is happening around here. For the life of me, this place has been DECIMATED by closing businesses - particularly the industrial ones. Now I know what Detroit must look like as we have become a miniature Detroit.

Not true. When was the last time you were downtown? There are several nice restaurants and shops on Race St. and surrounding blocks. The pot is quick to call the kettle black. They also have a city agency that actively works to bring in new businesses. More than one can say about salisbury.

Anonymous said...

I want to see a list of the jobs that O'Malley says have been created or brought into Maryland on his watch. Not just a general list, but specific numbers and company names. Enough of the baloney, already.

Anonymous said...

Which means our taxes will go up.

Anonymous said...

Have'nt heard anything from Salisbury Wicomico Economic Development office lately, anything new in the works?

Anonymous said...

Need to send local officials to Newberry,SC and find out how they have attracted 15 large manufacturing plants for a population of 40,000.

Anonymous said...

Someone else who is culpable for this debacle is --

Rick "Tax to the Max" Pollitt.

Anonymous said...

Seems to me one of you good ol' boys who claim to be champions of capitalism would simply swoop in and turn this place around.

Anonymous said...

But wait you born here's keep saying it will all be ok... You don't need outsiders....the shore is finished there is nothing here to warrant raising a familly. I got bashed by the blog on a recent post about moving my familly to Florida and how you can all do just fine without progress....well here's even more proof that I'm right. The shore will have trouble keeping anything in business. You born here's thinking the shore will rebound are fools..... Lotsa luck to ya....... Gonna be a nice weekend for the beach and water park here in Florida.....record growth as we speak as progress is welcomed.....go ahead and bash away.....I will have the last laugh... Sadly

Not to worry -- Fake Day and Jimmy boy will turn the tide.

If life is so great where you are, why are you on here annoying us?

Anonymous said...

All I can say is, either start showing up at the polls and stop relying on your neighbors to look out for your well being (meaning VOTE) or quit your bitching.

JoeAlbero said...

Beezer, better move quick on that list because if I have the information quick I hear Gander Mountain is reducing inventory and might be considering closing their doors locally as well. Nothing confirmed Folks but I do have a great source.

Anonymous said...

Joe, I heard the same thing about Gander, they said the anti gun legislation here in Maryland is killing business!

Anonymous said...

The liberals are probably jumping with joy over this. Anything that takes guns out of the state is considered good news to them. They just think the folks that get laid off can go down and get 5 years of unemployment and sign up for Obama care and everything will be wonderful.

Anonymous said...

Only LWRCI is moving

Anonymous said...

Regardless of location....if you invested in a business for 5 million and had the option to sell for 60 million I'm pretty sure I would do the same

Buh-bye gun nuts.

Joe, you probably already know, M&T Bank is closing their North Point Branch on 04 04 2014. Employes will be transfered to other branches, Accounts will be transfered to the Carroll Street branch. I am told the reason why the branch is being closed is because of its close proximity to the former Wilmington Trust now M&T Bank branch in Delmar.

buh-bye no nuts

there are over a hundred employeed through matech. and from what im told lwrc owner invests in flip businesses so ultimately we were doomed from the start. they try to pull the wool over our eyes but information is never a sole possesion. things will come to light in time. the best we can hope for is to not go down with them.

Anonymous said...

Joe,

The sad thing is the disconnect. No one on this thread has mentioned the state representatives from this area who have played a part in creating an unfriendly business environment. I have yet to read the names Norm Conway or Jim Mathias. Yet both of them have sold our area down the river. They both repeatedly vote to raise taxes. Both also vote year after year for the governor's bloated budget.

Vote for Mayor Carl Anderton and Delegate Mike McDermott. Putting fiscal conservatives in those two seats has to be a local priority for everyone in the area regardless of party.

Anonymous said...

5 years of unemployment? Where? I only got 99 weeks at $510/week. BTW, thanks.

Anonymous said...

Mmm , wonder how we can change this , gun dealers gone , ammo gone.
Maybe we still have time to use the ammo and guns we have!
Think that will wake em up?

Anonymous said...

The anti gun people don't understand that it will affect guns , ammo, clothing , hunting supplies of all types , scopes ,scents , property values, and many other commercial products.

Anonymous said...

dicky b. pulled his usual stunt. come in and act like a lifesaver squeeze the owners out then sell the company off to a third party. walk away with a nice fat payday and who gives a rats @ss about the employees and their families!
typical bs you see everyday whether it be wall street or Salisbury! the rich get richer and the rest of us, well we just get sh!tty end of the stick!

Anonymous said...

No Arnold it's goodbye jobs..... You know Those things that help people pay their bills....and so on. You are clueless but I'm not surprised.

Anonymous said...

8:02 Maybe, a little. Their pricing, and inability to keep customers happy is a big part of it.

9:52 That's right! You fight them off with words and reasoning... see how that works for you.

As these businesses close, people will get desperate, and start moving to new areas to burglarize. Good luck with your words, though.

Anonymous said...

9:29 Especially when you have an over-priced, inferior product!

Anonymous said...

Overpriced maybe, but not inferior.

Anonymous said...

9:19 You must not remember the vast number of recalls they had several years ago.

Anonymous said...

9:19 Please. They beat a bushmaster or dpms, and the like... but, as far as a professionally built rifle goes, lwrc is toddler.

Anonymous said...

The worlds most premier forces choose LWRC... That speaks volumes...

Anonymous said...

10:41 That title sounds alot like "Hope and Change" How did that work out for ya!

KLD1 said...

Please forget the reviews. The story line is a MD Gov that does nothing to attract and keep business in the state. Every empty building, every business that leaves hurts every one of us.

2 points, 7:03.

First, I have nothing against any individuals that have moved here, but as a group, you completely destroyed a great way of life. Things went downhill fast when the shore became a yuppie bedroom community for the entire urban northeast. Property values and associated taxes went out of sight and many locals couldn't afford their homes anymore. Infrastructure wasn't built for this population density. This was no longer a viable environment for the kind of manufacturing that thrived here. So, your kind were instrumental in what has become of the area. Don't blame the locals - we were doing just fine before you showed up.

Second - I lived in Southern FL for quite a while. Believe me - they don't appreciate your kind there, either.

Anonymous said...

>>>lwrc is toddler.<<< Growing pains, my friend. They are developing some truly superior firearms.

Anonymous said...

206 just thought I'd clue you in... I live in SWFl, Naples to be exact, most of the people here are come here's and they understand progress tourism and growth. Second if the land owners on the shore didn't sell then a guess come here's would have moved here. Most come here's have had nothing to do with the shores utter collapse. It's the leadership at the state and local level that hurt the area. Come here's didn't build the bypasses that have ruined Salisbury. Trust me you born here's are finished as the area sinks and it seems every week something else adds another nail to the coffin. Say what you want but Florida has the jobs, people and progress... And Delmarva has companies bolting, buildings boarded up and people leaving..... Case closed

Anonymous said...

I haven't read all of the comments,so if anyone mentioned the military aspects (if there are any)please excuse. My concern is SBY first and foremost, but if Afghanistan and all foreign deployments end, won't these companies be directly impacted anyway? Not finished completely, but impacted somewhat?

Anonymous said...

LWRC makes some of the best PRODUCTION personal combat/defense rifles/carbines in the world. BUT, in our area (IMHO) RPG Gunsmithing makes the best custom combat/defense/patrol rifles. Anything you want he can make. AND he's a local guy who cars about local people. LWRC doesn't care about local people or law enforcement. They forgot where they came from - and now they are gone.

Anonymous said...

If I had one agency to blame for Salisbury/Wicomico's demise - I would have to pin the blame on the BEACON group out of SU.

They have done nothing to promote business development.

Anonymous said...

For your information, we that are born heres are for the most part Republicans or Conservative Democrats. It's all you liberal come heres that have ruined everything. Take your liberal agenda and shove it. We will be just fine without any of you. Country folks know how to survive.

Anonymous said...

Dick Bernstein owns/owned LWRC, if you call what he does flipping businesses so be it. I'm here to tell you, he started K&L microwave in a garage, built it up and presided over it for many, many years before selling out. He's a smart businessman that has always treated his employees with respect. How many employers do you know that had an open door policy in the 80's and I mean a wide open door? Don't speak of that which you do not know. What you hear and what is true is usually miles apart.

Anonymous said...

The Beacon Group at SU is headed up by a bunch of liberals, Memo Diriker is a good example.

Anonymous said...

3:26 - you're making a completely different point with your second post - one I don't disagree with. Politicians have NEVER had the best interests of the shore in mind. And they were instrumental in the property theft that occurred in the 80's and 90's so
the ES could be developed into a playground.
And you make my point about South FL. You don't associate with the natives, just other carpetbaggers like yourself. I've lived on the west coast of FL. The true locals have a saying: 'Happiness is a car with New Jersey plates, towing a U-Haul back north'.

Anonymous said...

Bet K&L is next to close It's doors.

Anonymous said...

12:48. I love the born here vs come here argument. I was "born here" but left after college 30 years ago. Now I've returned, bought property, contribute to the local economy and am very happy to have returned home. Funny thing is, after 30 years, the arguments about the born here's and come here's haven't really changed a bit. Such a shame. One thing I learned about living in the "outside" world where there are no come here's and born here's is that prosperity can never be achieved by insular, close minded thinking.

Anonymous said...

no jobs no government lay them off and down size they are entitled to nothing

Anonymous said...

Actually 1:25 I think today you may be wrong on the SWFl issue, it's booming quickly... Hertz just broke ground for its new headquarters 750 plus jobs and even the people who have spent Their whole lives here couldn't be more thrilled... I only really hear complaints about traffic....very few true born here's left I suppose. To stay on point the leadership of md, and Salisbury, and the county have failed the PEOPLE regardless of were they came from. Allowing the bypasses was a total failure and lacked any vision....as far as my being a carpetbagger....I find it pretty amusing...I moved to the shore because I loved the area and still do. I wasn't looking to change it as much as enjoy it. My move to Florida was based on economics....much more money for my family and the perks of Florida living. Here progress is easy to see and it shows in how the area is growing. Nothing is perfect but the disaster on the shore is unlike anything I've ever seen in my nearly fifty years.....

Anonymous said...

2:57
We have similar situations. I came back to the area 10 years ago but have since moved on again. Many fond memories of growing up in the 70's/80's on the shore but the combination of unwillingness to accept change and the continuing hatred of come heres and anyone that may look different or have a different opinion led me to the decision to move on once again. It is a shame that such a beautiful area cannot move forward and prosper. The comments on this blog often validate the assertion that sometime people are their own worst enemy.

Anonymous said...

Whether you're from here or came here from elsewhere just ask yourself what YOU are doing to improve things. Look no further than that. It is truly that simple.

Anonymous said...

I am coveting the rifle portrayed. Looks like something you would need for whats coming.

Anonymous said...

5.57 You can build a better rifle for .30 of what that costs.

Anonymous said...

That which you do not know is that if matech shuts down I will be out of a job so an open door policy in the 80s is neither here nor there for me. I'm super glad to her that your writing his biography but what an owner does in the past does not alwways reflect his actions for the future. I can accept that businesses rise and fall but as this directly affects my family and me I feel very impacted by the whole situation. In addition, I openly welcome new information concerning this "alleged" transaction.

Anonymous said...

So 5:39 - could you clarify just a little? Are you condemning the population of the entire shore or just the Salisbury area? Your comment seems a little absurd, either way.

Anonymous said...

"very few true born here's left I suppose." Again, you reinforce my point. You don't give a crap about the locals. Which is OK, but don't get all weepy because they don't like you, either. Folks who want to be a part of the community are made welcome (as I was). I don't think that describes you.

6:06 did you see the word Salisbury in the post or can you not read?

Congrats! To the buyers and sellers. Enjoy your new venture. We wish you well.

Anonymous said...

Does it matter at all that LWRCI isn't being sold and wasn't sold? Colt made an offer and we turned it down based on their clearly communicating to us that they would shut our Salisbury and Cambridge facilities down.

Anonymous said...

This story has no foundation. Neither company has been sold. Does anyone care about the employees that have to read these rumors?

Anonymous said...

Sooooooo.....have LWRCI and MaTech been sold or not? Anyone know for sure?
