How often do you clean out the dryer lint
in the line exiting your home?

Every few years. Probably not often enough?
don't got a drier, spend my children support to the clotes washing place.
I've not ever cleaned mine out in the 4 yrs since I built my home. I've only used the dryer maybe 3 or 4 times in those 4 yrs. I prefer to use the clothesline.
Every two times I use it. One fire will make you think about it!

you clean out the LINE every other time you use the dryer? You must have a very short line. Mine goes under the house and out the side.
I replaced the line several years ago, and I'm sure it needs it again. Might just get rid of the line and use a nylon stocking and heat the house this winter.

There is a difference in cleaning the line and cleaning the filter.
11:44 AM I did that in my basement and thought it would work, but there is to much moisture from it.
The previous year my dryer wasn't drying and I thought it needed an new heating element. Come to find out my line was filled with water from the condensation and completely blocked the line. Problem solved, but it could have possibly caused a fire.

Maybe there is too much moisture in your basement? I've read about people doing it but never tried it yet. I don't have a basement, I had to crawl under the house. That's something I don't intend to do again myself.
But you're right about losing the ability to dry clothes from a clogged line. That's what caused me to change it the first time.

Think about it. What are you trying to dry? Wet clothes! So when you blow hot air on wet clothes you get hot moist air permeating any room. The lint goes through the lint filter and then it will go through the nylon stocking. Actually more lint gets through the filters than you think. While the lint is warm and moist it will stick to every thing and create a mess. Not something I enjoy cleaning up.
