Holy smokes! Oregon Democrat Wants Prescription-Only Cigarettes

Oregon state Rep. Mitch Greenlick, a Democrat, is sponsoring a bill that makes cigarettes a Schedule III controlled substance, equatable with ketamine, lysergic acid and anabolic steroids. The bill would force all cigarette smokers to carry a prescription from a doctor or face jail time.

Offenders of the proposed law would face maximum punishments of one year in prison, a $6,250 fine or both, Fox 12 Oregon reports.

“I think it’s pretty crazy,” Juan Silva of Salem, Ore., told Fox 12. “I don’t see it going through. It’s going to be something to watch for, but I don’t think it’ll pass.”

Government controlling personal behavior is enslaving the population. I am not a smoker but I'm horrified over this.

Our Founders set up the Federal govt to serve WE THE PEOPLE, not the other way around.

When does SHARIA LAW come to America?

Typical of a democrat. There was something on here earlier this week about such things. If a republican doesn't believe in smoking, they don't smoke. If a democrat doesn't believe in smoking, they want to make it illegal for everyone. I am not a smoker, never have been- but to each his own!

Wait for it to be illegal to be over weight.

For those not versed in history, Pastor Martin Niehmoller was a Protestant clergyman in Germany during the early days of the Nazi government in the 1930s. He initially supported Hitler but later actively opposed the Nazis. He was arrested by the Gestapo in 1937 and sent to the Sachsenhausen and Dachau concentration camps. Allied forces liberated him at the end of World War II. After the war, Niemoller famously said: “First they came for the Communists, but I was not a Communist, so I said nothing. Then they came for the Social Democrats, but I was not a Social Democrat, so I did nothing. Then came the trade unionists, but I was not a trade unionist. And then they came for the Jews, but I was not a Jew, so I did little. Then when they came for me, there was no one left to stand up for me.”

The mere fact that a politician (democrat, of course) would even THINK of legislation like this should make everyone shudder in fear. They want to RULE, not "represent", and they always know whats best for the rest of us and, like Hitler and his ilk, will go to ANY lengths to implement their personal version of the perfect world. Regardless of, and in spite of, any law or restrictions on their abilities. those are mere technical obstacles and not too importantto them. Like the ban on large sodas by another wanna-be king in New York.

If this happens their are going to be lawsuits since health care charges a minimum of 100 dollars per month per person for having a smoker in a family so with the money lost the health care companies are going to most likely sue the government.

I need to apologize to someone. They sent this in (about trade unionists) and I ridiculed him/her.

I stand corrected and apologize.

the government is already taxing the crap out of cigs just so those who choose not to work can get free health care supplied of course by those very tax dollars. I just want the government to tax obesity and stupidity the same way!
Then give the money from all the fat people to the skinny ones and the taxes from all the stupid people to the smart ones. Seem's about right don't ya think?

Ok, then alcohol by prescription only, too. Then all the elitists in DC will howl and scream.
